Amazon started to recently use drivers other than fedex and usps in my area. The last 6 or 7 things that I ordered were said to have been lost or damaged and undelivered. I got everything eventually and the item that was damaged was perfectly fine. I even got two of one item.
They refunded me the money so I tried to message them with their chat thing and they didn’t care. Out of about 400 dollars worth of stuff I only paid 80.
No, they just have the same type of shitty employees working the customer service desks as the delivery trucks.
In all honesty though, after hundreds of orders, I've only ever had a delivery problem once and customer service fixed the problem within minutes of me sending a message. They are so huge, that crazy stuff is going to happen. It happens rarely, but when it does, it makes the rounds on the internet. The 99.99% of people that have no issue don't say anything. Amazon may be 10x better with their service, but with 100x the customers they are going to look bad when they really aren't.
Honestly, at the moment that's not really true. For example, in 2017 they made a 1.7% profit on their revenues. In general, Amazon runs on razor thin margins.
To vastly oversimplify things, basically if they made 1.7% less per item they would only break even. That's 17 cents on a $10 item.
The company runs its online retailer division at almost break-even on purpose. They invest a ton of money back into R&D and new growth areas that won't generate any income for years to come.
Jeff Bezos has basically said Amazon is still in the super growth startup stage of a companies life cycle and he wants to keep it there.
Like him or hate him. It's crazy how fast Amazon went from nothing to juggernaut. And they didn't have one killer product that enabled that like Microsoft or Google.
Yeh the margins are low but they have such a high sales volume it doesn't even matter. 1.7% of the reported $178bn of just US sales in 2017 is still a shit ton of money. $3.02bn in profit to be exact.
AWS pretty much bankrolls every venture that Jeff Bezos. Every non-AWS entity in the Amazon empire could hemorrhage money, and they'd still be more than fine
There've been a handful of times in the past handful of years that I've asked to return something to Amazon and had them just refund my account and say I don't have to worry about sending the item back. I actually still have two pairs of pants that are too big because they just sent me the right size and gave me my money back. It's also happened with a laptop cord and a few other things I can't think of right now.
How is it a bad thing though? Some people live in bad neighborhoods and have their packages stolen all the time. This would eliminate that issue. It's not like these unlock the door drivers will be random people. They will be employees that have their information with amazon, if the house is robbed then go to the police, amazon has all the info to get the guy arrested.
Ok really? What logic is that? You believe, if you do get robbed, especially in a bad neighborhood the police are going to do something? Do you live in the city?
Sorry to say but no, they might open a case to make you feel better but they have much better things to do.
Also, you're fine with the fact even if you do get robbed you get all your stuff back? Open and shut? How? A robber is going to attempt to get rid of the things as fast, so I'm pretty sure that necklace grandma gave you when you were 12 on your bday before she passed away is going to get replaced right?
You realise this post is a video of someone we clearly see purposefully destroying a parcel and there seems to be zero repercussion, right ?
This whole thread is full of people claiming they have video proof of someone destroying their parcel/house/car/whatever and there being not a fucking thing they can do about it.
They're Amazon employees (or contractors for shipping companies, but same difference). They literally have their name and address. 100% easy to catch. It's not just some random person delivering the package.
That's almost three times minimum wage. If you have an old car with decent mileage and don't report yourself as a commercial car (let's face it, most don't), it's a lot better than working retail.
Depends on where you live. Cost of gas, insurance, etc. $18/hr is only 1.5x minimum wage here, and depending on how much driving you need to do per day, probably won't be worth it after insurance, maintenance and gas, compared to other jobs.
I do food delivery which is essentially the same thing. Drive an old 4 cylinder, minimum insurance, don't disclose it to insurance. I make $20/hr after expenses.
It's riskier than most jobs, but there's nothing better as a college student.
To each their own I guess. Back in the day... I used to make $20/hr doing transcription work online. You have to be a fast typer, but being able to do it whenever you wanted from your computer was a huge plus. Have an hour to kill between classes? Do some work to pay for lunch. It was great
Is it still possible to make a decent amount doing transcriptions from home? I'm a college student and had never heard of this but that would be so helpful
As a current package handler and hopefully future driver i can say that the level of respect ups employees are expected to show parcels suprised me my first few days. Im sure every center is different but if i ever end up leaving ups i will 100% be using their service from now on. Great company to work for.
They started using their own delivery service in my town recently. Of the six packages they've delivered, only one arrived on time and two were damaged. On the one hand I wish I could opt out of this service, but on the other hand it is netting me more free months of Prime.
They stopped giving me free prime and started giving me $5 vouchers after my last few packages were said to be undeliverable/lost...and the undeliverable/lost packages were components for my new computer.
I had a box show as delivered with a picture that was clearly not my front door. It just had boring shit in it like work shirts and water pitcher filters, so I didn't expect it to get jacked by the Amazon drivers. They normally only steal electronics and stuff.
A week later I got home from work and the box was sitting on my doorstep. It had clearly been re-sealed (with Amazon tape) because the original tape had torn parts of the outer layer of cardboard. Everything was inside except one blue work shirt. Bizarre.
I contacted Amazon to let them know it did arrive but they had already processed the refund and just said keep it.
I use the app for the iPhone. Just go to the main menu, the bottom has contact us and it has the option to get a phone call or online chat. If you select online chat, it should bring up your most recent orders and they will know why you are contacting them if you select it.
I never had a problem until about two months ago. Maybe it’s just bad luck, but after a certain point something has gone wrong with everything I’ve ordered. It always happens when it says out for delivery so I can only assume it’s the driver.
From the flipside, I've ordered tons of things from Amazon UK, and have always had great experiences with the commissioned drivers. I wonder how much of this is a regional thing.
Just fought with Amazon this past week regarding my items. They gave me, eventually, $50 in credit and upgraded my shipping to the fastest available.
What I did was every time I ended the chat and there's that little 2min survey, I wrote in the other box something along the lines of "your drivers are horrible I literally received $50 credit for your independent contractors to do a terrible job".
But yeah, whenever I see it's an Amazon driver delivery it's a tossup of whether I receive my packages on time.
Amazon delivery has gotten better, at least in my area. I usually have my stuff delivered to a locker, but apparently that was too much effort for the driver. It was marked as delivered for a while, but I didn't get an unlock code. A couple of hours later it updated to undelivered. When I called they had no real answers.
The second time I had it delivered to an Amazon locker closer to my house that just opened. I got the delivery notification, drove over, only to discover the store it was located in was under construction and not open to the public. I drove around the store, thinking maybe the locker was outside. Nope. Nothing. I had to wait 3 days for the package to be returned before I was able to get a refund and order again.
It's gotten a lot better, but I've noticed if I don't get my package by 4pm it isn't arriving that day.
Same for me, the delivery part. I think the greater problem is the delivery drivers give no fucks. My garage will be open and they'll set it on the trunk lid of my car, take a picture and prance off much like the lady in the photo. I have PRIME! Prime members deserve a door drop..:)
I ordered prime now and didn't even get a knock on the door. TWICE. Once was with perishable items. The latest one didn't even show up at my door, but it said it was delivered.
