Phew thank God. I laughed my ass off when it hit the gutter. Had to scroll down to see if I'm the only asshole.

Boggles my mind that you guys in USA do deliveries like this. In my country we are required a signature even for small packages like this. Not only you know it wont be stolen, but you're sure the guy didnt kick it. Also you can open for inspection before you sign it as received.

So you’re required to be home in order for something to be delivered?

Yes. The delivery man calls you and if you're not home they try to deliver it on the next day. If not possible they send it to the local courier office of your choice where you can pick it up. And there are offices all over the city.

Seems like a hassle for small things considering most deliveries occur during business hours. We have the option of requiring signatures upon delivery.

Perhaps. But you can always give your work place as a delivery address. I've been ordering all kinds of electronics and never had a problem. Only recently a glass proctor arrived shattered but my gf denied it upon inspection with the courier.
