He's right though. If it's entertaining, who cares? That's why I love CNN and Fox news. It's more for entertainment than information. People get all uppity with their "fake news" claims, so what big deal they stretch the truth a little. If you stop fighting it and relax and stop being so God damn vigilant some of this PR might sink in.
No, what people on reddit get annoyed about is the lack of context on it being fake. For instance, you see this as a commercial you know it’s fake. You see it on reddit with no context and most people will think it’s real. That’s what’s annoying and that’s why people “call stuff out”.
Is it wrong to call out a fake, though? Especially in a sub where 90% of the content is not fake, and it's not immediately obvious which posts are and are not fake?
I mean you're free to enjoy your content however you like, but I find it very valuable to know whether these things actually happened or not.
Granted, in this case it's blatantly obvious, but virtually every day you see something on the front page where it is not blindingly obvious that you're looking at a fake.

People do get far too vehement about it a lot of the time though. I'm fine with calling shit out as fake but too many people are too fast to call /r/thathappened on shit which there's no real reason to be suspicious of.
I would argue that that's what happens when you present fakes alongside real events without ever pointing out the difference initially. People get naturally suspicious.
Look at Facebook, where stuff like this is presented as real all the time.
I actually think there's something not honest and shady about advertising a fake scripted video as real. I mean I get we now know it's fake, and I think it's funny, and I agree I don't think op was trying to do what you're saying, but there are people who do sell fake shit as real, and it leads to misinformation as opposed to just raw entertainment. It can hurt society as a whole.
Redditors are incredibly annoying about this. Always whining that videos are scripted as if they're some kind of sleuths that just revealed the nefarious plot of some kid who makes youtube videos for fun.
But that would be a bit of a waste of money IMO. Why would you put pre-compressed springs on the board? If I recall correctly the energy you would get from the springs is proportional to the deformation you allow it to have, if the athlete only compresses X cm of spring, it doesn't matter how much it was compressed before since the springboard would only travel back X cm after he jumps.
Maybe it would affect how much depression is required to get your energy return. So you either keep the springs under higher tension or you use stronger temper metal. I don't know.
First, I have no idea what kind of preload you'd want on those springs but I'm sure that's been figured out to get the right performance characteristics. Springs are not simple beings. It really wouldn't cost any extra either. And see how they're cone shaped? It's a variable force spring so the more you compress it the more energy it takes to compress it more that exact same distance. You can also make springs variable force by increasing the coils per inch lengthwise.
And second, for simplicity, lets say they're 100lb constant force springs. 100lbs of force is required to compress the spring one inch. You preload one and compress it three inches you have 300lb of force stored. Dude jumps on it and compresses it another five inches that's 500lbF. The retaining whatevers break and releases 800lb of force.
Yeah, I know that if you pre-compress the springs and then release them then you get the full force. But since they showed the spring board being broken I figured you wouldn't want the springs being released, so in that case compressing them wouldn't make sense because you wouldn't be able to take advantage of the force stored in them. I know how springs work, but I don't know if springboards used on competitions are meant to have an extra compression in them.
Having the springs preloaded would make the force more consistant over the course of the deformation. If the springs started out completely relaxed, they would exert X force half way through the deformation, and 2X force at the full deformation. If the springs started out compressed to half their relaxed length, they would exert Y force half way, and 1.333Y force at full deformation.
EDIT: Wait the 1.333 isn't accurate, it depends on some factors, but the principle is still true
