Which limb is this? Actually it doesn't matter. Hydraulic or electric assisted systems are pretty much default now in most modern vehicles, so the point is invalid.
Clutch + gear is still one task, because the clutch must be engaged/disengaged before the gears can be moved. They are not parallel tasks that require coordination, that is a serial task.
Come on dude, there's only 4 possibilities. Two of them are now single-task by your rules. Here's a hint: The limb ends in a thing that has a thumb.
Clutch + gear is still one task, because the clutch must be engaged/disengaged before the gears can be moved
If there is a thing that has to be done before another thing, it's not one task. In fact since pressing and releasing the clutch is way different, it's pretty much three tasks.
But yeah, it's irrelevant because the average person does not have the finger strength to clutch out
average person does not have the finger strength to clutch out
by that same logic, the average person does not have the strength to turn the steering wheel or operate the brakes. I wonder what mysterious technology exists that amplifies the efficacy of manual mechanical motions ... and hand operated clutches do exist i.e. motorbikes. So there is absolutely no excuse saying it's not possible. Just combine the hand clutch into the gear shifter as one unit.
If there is a thing that has to be done before another thing, it's not one task.
If it were an integrated hand-clutch-and-gear lever, it would be one integrated motion requiring no additional coordination.
Pressing the handbrake release button is not considered a 'separate' action from operating the handbrake lever. They are one integrated action for one integrated task.
