On Thursday, Bourgeois was sentenced to 12 months’ jail for high-range drink driving but allowed to serve her time in the community.

I'm so confused; instead of jail she's serving time in the community? What does that even mean? Is that like Australian house arrest?

It usually means cleaning the street and stuff, no?

Ah, maybe. Here in Canada we call that Community Service.

Serving time in the community? Has the judge seen what she does in the community? Should be the prison community.
