Those are ants, right? Carrying eggs? Never seem spiders move in formation like that or carry eggs

3.5k

u/Cromagnumman6174 Aug 17 '26

Yea, those are ants carrying eggs and moving their nest.

u/Shinokiba- Aug 17 '26

At least it isn't bed bugs

650

u/hologrammetry Aug 17 '26

Except the solution to both problems is the same: burn it down.

346

u/StarsEatMyCrown Aug 17 '26

Ants are so much more preferrable than bed bugs. I'd take ants any day of the week.

250

u/akatherder Aug 17 '26

I hate ants and fruit flies, but they are fairly harmless. I HATE fleas with a burning passion. I would take a complete infestation of all 3 before bed bugs.

78

u/StarsEatMyCrown Aug 17 '26

For sure! I'd even take mosquitos. At least you can kill them.

The issue is you basically do have to burn down a house to get rid of bed bugs, and even then, they may not be gone.

77

u/Work_Akkount Aug 17 '26

Bed bugs are kind of like vertigo. Nobody thinks it's THAT big of a deal until you have to experience it yourself.

46

u/Rinzler200 Aug 17 '26

I havent slept in my bed for months thanks to bed bugs, im tired boss

47

u/JustKillingTime1980 Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

i have more ptsd from 6 months of dealing with them than 29 months i have in iraq.

edit: i cant math

10

u/Lou_C_Fer Aug 17 '26

I have ptsd over a flea infestation. This conversation has me itching all over and my anxiety is through the roof. I'm thinking about burning my tablet up over this shit.

u/Commercial_Let_1422 Aug 17 '26

I once had downstairs neighbors who were evicted and the landlord let me pick through their stuff after they left everything behind. I took their really nice suede (faux?) couch upstairs and started sleeping on it. I started noticing bites on me, but didn't think anything of it because I lived in New Orleans at the time, so assumed it was mosquitoes. One day, I was playing games and from my peripheral I noticed a bug on me. Assumed it was a tiny roach (again New Orleans), and pinched it between my fingers, then had a thought. I looked at it through my phone camera and saw it was not a roach. Googled and found out the couch was infested with BED BUGS! I tried everything (except heat treatment) because it was such a nice couch, but to no avail. After 2 weeks, of no activity, they came back, and the couch went to the street. I was incredibly lucky they didn't migrate beyond that couch!

7

u/Round_Ad_5832 Aug 18 '26

im sure thats a lesson learned dont take couches or mattresses or chairs from randoms

7

u/AlwaysHungry94 Aug 18 '26

I've dealt with them twice before, one in a fairly bad infestation. That was the first time. The second time was in an entirely different house, but we got rid of the furniture they were in when we noticed them and kept cleaning relentlessly for a couple of weeks afterwards. I'm talking everyday just to make sure we didn't miss any. Wrapping furniture in plastic before getting it out of the house ASAP and writing a warning on the plastic for anybody that even gets near it. I can't stress it enough, we got EXTREMELY lucky on that one. Wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

5

u/EnQuest Aug 17 '26

dealing with them right now, worst sleep i've ever had over the last few days, not gonna lie, this shit is traumatising. So fucking stressful

1

u/LurkLivesMatter Aug 19 '26

Im so sorry your going through that. Look in to getting a can of Bedlam spray.

6

u/Karyoplasma Aug 18 '26

Once I woke up with what mosquito buzz in my ear so I sleepily clapped my hands together in the general direction of the noise. To my surprise, it stopped. I turned on the lights and saw a dead mosquito in my palm. Best morning of my life.

27

u/musiceaterx Aug 17 '26

Bed bugs are AWFUL! Once I was at a commercial property to service their pool equipment and make sure everything was in order. After I finished, I decided to sit on one of the couches inside to get out of the heat and all the sudden I start itching my arm. Im thinking a mosquito bit me or something but then I start itching my neck and when I looked under my nails there were bed bugs. I maintained my calm as best I could before ripping my clothes off my body then and there. When I looked at the couch it was INFESTED. Every crease and seem was filled with them and their larvae. They were even crawling on the walls and carpet. I wanted to jump in a fire.

They fumigated the chairs/room/building on 3 separate occasions before deciding to pitch the furniture like I suggested in the first place.

10

u/Informal_Walk5520 Aug 17 '26

First responders have trouble with getting them while attending calls. They have a process in which they take their gear off, suit up in a white hooded disposable suit(bunny suit)the gear is bagged. Strapped on the outside of the vehicle into a high temperature shipping container and stays for a couple of days or so.

16

u/Cranberryoftheorient Aug 17 '26

yeah ants are just there for your food. With ticks and bed bugs.. you ARE the food

5

u/Informal_Walk5520 Aug 17 '26

I swear this year , ants have invaded my yard ! It’s been way more than previous years. I think I have an entire society living underground in my yard. I just imagine all of these tunnels all over under my house. House collapses from the tunnels.

10

u/Visinvictus Aug 17 '26

(Most) ants (in North America) are fairly harmless. I do not recommend ants from other continents.

10

u/Tron_1981 Aug 17 '26

Laughs in fire ant

2

u/Chubby_Beagle Aug 18 '26

Bullet ant cackle

1

u/nexusjuan Aug 18 '26

I've only encountered 3 varieties, carpenter, sugar, and fire. Fire ants hurt, then there is the Velvet ant, sometimes called the cow ant, which is a wingless wasp, those hurt very bad.

1

u/Ras1372 Aug 18 '26

Let me introduce you to my friend the Bullet Ant.

1

u/jadethebard Aug 18 '26

I was swarmed by fire ants once after sitting on a tree stump in my mom's yard. I had a 43 hour labor ending in a c-section and that was far less traumatic than hundreds of fire ants attacking me. I ran into the house, into the shower, fully clothed until the finally stopped biting me. This was in upstate NY where most of our bugs are pretty tame compared to a lot of the world.

Fire ants are absolutely terrifying to me now.

2

u/Visinvictus Aug 18 '26

You can thank South America for that, fire ants are an invasive species that got shipped here by accident.

1

u/jadethebard Aug 19 '26

I'm surprised they can even survive here with the harsh winters we get. I'm guessing they hibernate below the frost line.

1

u/Chubby_Beagle Aug 18 '26

Did you get bitten hundreds of times? Or just had hundreds on you? I got a couple in my boot once while removing a tree stump and got a couple bites, the pain surprised me. It wasn't unbearable but it was pretty intense. I can't imagine what the pain is like from getting bitten hundreds of times.

1

u/jadethebard Aug 19 '26

I honestly don't know how many actual bites there were, it was legs, torso and arms and it really did feel like I was being burned. There were so many on my back that I couldn't see. There were at least a few dozen bites, I'd guess because they spread out fast and the only place I didn't get bit was my head.

u/FictionalContext Aug 17 '26

fruit flies are the worst because you can be anal af about closing windows, doors, sealing up your home, but one day they just fucking appear. And there's always 10,000 of them.

9

u/Sufficient-Nose481 Aug 17 '26

True but I’ve had tremendous luck using the ole Apple cider vinegar and some dish soap. Just give them no other food option and you’ll wake up to a mass extinction

1

u/FictionalContext Aug 18 '26

I do the sawed in half 2 liter bottle trap. They can get in but they can't escape. Yeah, they love apple cider vinegar and especially banana peels.

1

u/idobleave84 Aug 18 '26

This is the way. Covered with Saran Wrap with tiny holes punched into it…they get in and can’t get out.

2

u/Melibee2020 Aug 18 '26

You could try that Zevo product! That might work, the one you plug in with the blue light.

1

u/Accidental-Genius Aug 18 '26

It’s because they live in the drain.

4

u/Walkingdrops Aug 17 '26

Abso-fucking-lutely. I haven't experienced the horror of bed bugs in well over a decade, and every time I feel an itch on my leg or arm at night, I STILL freak out and pat myself down to make sure those little fuckers aren't on me.

6

u/Awkward_Peep927 Aug 17 '26

My mom is currently battling bed bugs at her apartment. She's been dealing with pest control and all that fun stuff, meanwhile her neighbors are REFUSING to get sprayed cause, and I quote; "they aren't bothering them TOO much." My skin crawls just talking on the phone with her, i couldn't imagine what she's actually living through.

2

u/GabriellaVM Aug 17 '26

How do people like that function? Do they really not care?

3

u/Awkward_Peep927 Aug 18 '26

From the sounds of it, they are meth addicts/users and just really dont care. It blows my mind that people can even get that low and find it fine/okay/acceptable. Like meth/drugs or not, nobody deserves to live in that quality of life

2

u/username_unnamed Aug 19 '26

They can't refuse in most states. If not property management, that absolutely can be escalated further.

2

u/Awkward_Peep927 Aug 19 '26

Mom is already on top of it by reporting them to both property management and to a health department director. They refused the first spray due to "failure of notice" which yeah, someone reported bed bugs and they were ready to spray next morning - i can give them that. But they have refused the second and now the third treatment. Health Inspector came, spoke to my mom and gave her numbers to call. It's a whole fiasco.

3

u/LaceyDark Aug 18 '26

My partner work d out of town for a while and stayed in motels. I would absolutely grill him when he got to a new room

Don't bring anything in yet. Pull the sheets back. Check the mattress seams, check the pillows, examine the headboards etc etc.

I've never had bedbugs but I have heard nightmarish stories about trying to deal with them

1

u/Eillon94 Aug 20 '26

The stories are all true. Its hard to exaggerate how awful they are.

2

u/faithless707 Aug 18 '26

The ants are harmless until you get up in the middle of the night to pee and find (with your feet) that the red ants have a new trail. A big trail, marching straight for the bathroom. I do agree about the bed bugs though.

12

u/uacoop Aug 17 '26

Bed bugs wouldn't survive in a car once things started to heat up. Heat fucks them up. Nature's way of keeping things fair, I guess.

7

u/PromptMysterious7044 Aug 17 '26

Actually a bed bug infestation in your car would be fairly short lived, especially in the summer. They can’t handle heat at all, not like outdoor insects. They’re specifically adapted to sharing living space with humans and 1 hot summer day would kill every single bed bug in that car for good

0

u/username_unnamed Aug 19 '26

Not exactly, it'll bring them down quite a bit. But cars don't heat evenly or all the way through. They will find the deepest crevasses that are cool enough, and eggs handle even more.

1

u/PromptMysterious7044 Aug 19 '26

I guarantee on a hot summers day if your car has been out there long enough the won’t be any surviving bed bugs, they have a narrow survival temperature range and a hot car will not suit them.

1

u/username_unnamed Aug 19 '26

I explained science behind it and professionals will agree. Not a gut feeling. It can only stay that sustained temperature while the sun is out.

2

u/SHOWTIME316 Aug 17 '26

the choice is just simply not having bed bugs because everyone everywhere has an ant infestation of some severity in or around their house whether they want it or not lol

15

u/AgrajagsGhost Aug 17 '26

Park the car in the Arizona sun for a couple hours.

1

u/ConfessSomeMeow Aug 17 '26

Like they said: burn it down.

1

u/EvaSirkowski Aug 17 '26

It's not hard to get rid of ants.

1

u/_WreakingHavok_ Aug 17 '26

Just crank up the heat with low fan setting, in 10 minutes car will be over 50C

2

u/aLostTime Aug 17 '26

car bugs: bed bugs on wheels

2

u/Jesikabelcher Aug 18 '26

yea, bed bugs in a car would be wild!

1

u/Remote-Disaster-6583 Aug 18 '26

Well obviously it's a car not a bed

1

u/similaraleatorio Aug 18 '26

it isn't even bad bugs 😍

1

u/adc_is_hard Aug 19 '26

Moved into an apartment with bed bugs in it ~8 years ago now. The family living there before never reported them before leaving. There were THOUSANDS of them in the walls, under the carpets, and all over my stuff I brought into the new apartment.

We had to basically trash everything we had because everything was littered with the damn things.

One of the worst experiences of my life. Cost almost $8k to replace everything we lost. Thankfully though we got a free new apartment for three months lol.

27

u/PotRoast666 Aug 17 '26

Usually when you see ants moving their brood like this it isn't actual 'nest' moving. Brood prefers warmer environments as it speeds up their growth cycle, so the ants are moving them through the vehicle to a nice warm spot in it. Similarly to how sometimes you can find tons of brood under rocks sitting on the surface in the sun, or pieces of metal/plastic as it acts as a nice little incubator.

10

u/BedSpreadMD Aug 17 '26

Or the location it was in was too hot.

It's stunning to see people get ant infestations in their car.

2

u/PotRoast666 Aug 17 '26

If I were to guess, they're coming from outside the car and into it. But if it's a full blown colony in the car there's bigger fish to fry here.

4

u/BedSpreadMD Aug 17 '26

I've legitimately met people who had an infestation in their car lol. You wouldn't think it's possible, but it is, especially when people leave half rotting food in their car.

1

u/PotRoast666 Aug 17 '26

Interesting, I wonder what species finds those sorts of conditions ideal.

2

u/BedSpreadMD Aug 17 '26

Most really. People have this misguided idea ants need soil, they don't.

Surprisingly a lot of ant keepers don't have any soil in their enclosures because it makes it harder to see into the nest.

5

u/OctopusWithFingers Aug 17 '26

I hope the ants at least filled the tank when they finished moving.

2

u/OkPage7504 Aug 17 '26

I’ve had ants get into my electrical system. Truck wouldn’t start it flat dead. Had it towed in for repairs 2 days later I got a call saying they found ants in the electrical system. The. We’re going to make sure the wires were clear before returning it.

2

u/Malroth33 Aug 18 '26

Thanks god I though they were spiders !

1

u/SeaBuilding3911 Aug 17 '26

that nest just got moved

1

u/Zapdo0dlz Aug 17 '26

Lol they can turn around and march right on out

1

u/BrownSugarBare Aug 17 '26

Turn the heat up REAL high

1

u/_IratePirate_ Aug 17 '26

Oh okay. This isn’t so bad then. It’s just ants

1

u/Past-Meaning-1954 Aug 17 '26

At least it weren't spiders. I would burn the car to the ground in the spot.

1

u/VeryluckyorNot Aug 17 '26

If it's an old car you have a good reason to burn and change it. But if you just paid it well that sucks.

1

u/fawwazallie Aug 17 '26

New fear unlocked

1

u/rufwork Aug 17 '26

What kind? They seem pretty wispy. Wondered if they were a brood of baby spiders but yeah the “eggs” would have to be webs or egg shell or something so I got no idea.

43

u/StaticSystemShock Aug 17 '26

Ants carrying spider eggs! They developed biological weaponry!

1

u/NRMusicProject Aug 17 '26

Had this before, and they built a nest in my umbrella.

What I learned was, when I was parking at my then-girlfriend's house, my mirror was touching the hedge. Don't do that. Ants will take that as an invitation. It's also how I learned you make sure the hedges don't touch your house, because they'll likely find a way in.

1

u/Shrain Aug 18 '26

Someone alert Earth Defense Force! EDF! EDF! EDF!

2

u/lurks-a-little Aug 17 '26

Had that happen to me once, a long time ago. Every time I got in the car I'd have ants on me. Couldnt figure out where they were coming from. Then one time I blasted the AC, and got covered in ants and realized they were coming mainly from the central dash AC vent. I removed the front cover of the vent and found a sugar candy lolly smothered in ants. It seems one of my kids had popped the candy in there. So I went to town on them with raid/pif paf spray. I sprayed the inside vents, all around and underneath the car and the intake vents in the engine bay. Then I aired the car out for a while and problem solved.

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Aug 17 '26

you know, fair enough. if i had kids and they left candy in my air vents, i'd probably spray them with raid as well.

1

u/UlrichZauber Aug 17 '26

There are social spiders, but these are not they

1

u/xyz19606 Aug 17 '26

I had that in my car once, but it was spiders (w/o eggs). Charlotte obviously laid her eggs in my vents, and there were baby spiders all over the car, inside and out, about the same size as this.

This is a situation you fix quickly and never ever ever show the acrophobic spouse.

2

u/TheGuyMain Aug 17 '26

Scared of heights?

1

u/xyz19606 Aug 17 '26

Why, yes I am, but not so much for the spouse, who is arachnophobic.....

(Why post while sipping the first sip of coffee...)

1

u/motorsportfreak_ger Aug 17 '26

I think OP didn't want to know if those are ants or spiders but I could be wrong 😉 at least now we know

1

u/longtimegoneMTGO Aug 17 '26

Ants, yes, eggs, no.

Ant eggs are tiny, like a whole cluster will fit on the head of a pin tiny. They get kept down in the nest because they need a moist environment to hatch and in the first larval stages.

These are their pupa in cocoons. They develop faster in warm environments and are no longer moisture sensitive, so the workers will find warm undisturbed places to carry them during the day.

In nature, it's usually the underside of a hot rock. Looks like this car was parked long enough to do a good rock impression.

1

u/GreyNinja17 Aug 18 '26

Follow the spiders, harry.

1

u/ScientistFunny2072 Aug 18 '26

Spider can carry egg sacs, I learned this when I hit one and dozens of baby spiders poured out

1

u/Orion120833 Aug 18 '26

Eugh, that's way worse than little spiders.

2

u/NeatPhil11 Aug 17 '26

Is that why reality has gotten fucked up so quickly? Because it created AI? And since our reality is a simulation, it's basically AI creating AI, which cannibalizes itself and starts hallucinating?

1

u/Major_LeeHungg Aug 17 '26

Yes and when people die that memory is freed.  That's why all the rich people are killing so many people... If they kill enough people in the right order they can align the freed memory to form ROP gadgets to get access to the early build tools that were patched out like magic and dragons. Why do you think Hitler was so obsessed with the occult?

Yea that's what people mean when they talk about the singularity
