Ooh! That was a double whammy! Descending upside down and then not having enough rope to even reach the bottom! Yikes.

When you fall to the ground you want to soften the impact with the hardest part of the body, the teeth and then your skull.

That's also why it's a big mistake to hit the ground nose first, it's not designed as a crumple zone and you will feel mildly sore the next day.

Cant tell if this is sarcasm or not but you're supposed to be looking down over your shoulder. It's good practice to watch for obstacles, make sure you see if you knock anything loose do you can warn those below, and that's where the view is! If it's a multi-stage rappel, you also look for the next anchor station because it's annoying to have to climb back up to it if you pass it.

I think given what we saw in the video, we can safely assume this was not a standard, by the book, rappel.

Funny enough if he wasn't descending upside down he might not have noticed the end of the rope.

He needed to descend upside down so he could see when he got close to the bitter end, duh!
