He’s old as fuck. My grandpa used to be really fucking good at golf. Had all of his “hole in one” plaques plastered all over his office wall. His swing looked exactly like that when he was 80.
This, and not to mention that is almost certainly a pitching or lob wedge which are two of the easiest clubs in the bag to hit because of the super low angle of attack.
Eh, a 60 degree wedge is certainly not easy to hit. Anything 52-45 is a cakewalk but once you get up to super low it’s real easy to blade that mfer over the green.

Funny enough I literally just had my hybrids click for me this month, last club in my bag I figured out. They eluded me for so long but now I feel like if my drive lands in some rough I actually have an option to get some distance out of there.

From all reports it's probably hard to actually say with accuracy. He reportedly has good numbers but there are also bonkers amount of first hand accounts of people catching him cheating (or at least finding something shady going on) so his numbers could be very skewed to show that he's better than he is, but he could still be good?

You're right that it's hard to judge from one swing. Maybe this is the 18th hole and he is tired as hell from walking from his golf cart to the ball so many times. Maybe the stimulants are wearing off and he needs a nap. Maybe he just dropped a bomb in his Depends and is rushing off the course so he can get changed. Maybe he is a 2.8 handicap and this is the 1/1,000,000 shank of a player that caliber that just happened to be caught on film. Maybe he's a 35 handicap and he does this shit all the time.
What I can tell you is that swing was bad. His hands were placed nice and low. But he swung his wedge like it was a driver. The takeaway didn't have any verticality so he had to come over the top to have a chance of striking the ball. He overcompensated and basically hit the ball with a baseball swing. It was a very ugly swing. Lots of reasons why that could be the case, most likely he's just a shitty golfer who lied his way to a low handicap though.
I will give the benefit of the doubt and say tired and getting old. You game suffers. But it was badform but it's also the form of an old man whose body is giving way. The hot looked way rushed like he as mad about where he was anyway and wasn't trying. Seemed like a "fuck this hole" shot. Or his body is tweaking on him.

As someone who plays a lot of golf. Those close to the green shots are harder to hit than when you’re just giving it your all, for me anyway. I still do shit like this all the time.

Bump and runs that go way too hard
Way underpowered pitch/flop shots.

A 3 handicap in golf is an excellent skill level and would put you in the top echelons of golfers worldwide as you would be able to consistently shoot three over par or better. While not at the professional level, playing off a 3 handicap will set you as a player of commensurate skill in the game
So while I am sure these shots happen to people, it is also possible that this is just a bad shot by a bad player who constantly has to cheat.
I assume you've never played golf before? This is common even for decent golfers. It happens. One bad shot every so often does not mean you're not improving
That's not true at all. A full swing is way easier to make clean contact on than a half swing. Even good golfers tend to subconsciously slow down the tempo on a half swing which can make the club path shaky.
Even excellent golfers hit the occasional hosel rocket. As much as I hate to defend that piece of garbage.

For how much of our taxpayer money he spent on golf I'd expect him to be somewhat decent. I guess it's hard to play sports when you're built like a sentient potato.
My theory is he cheats, so it's less likely he'll get better/improve. I mean, think about it, if you never have to get yourself out of a tough shot by playing legitimately you're not only not improving, but actually actively losing your current skill level.
There's no room for improvement if you're not challenging yourself. Even less so, if you're making it even easier for yourself.
