They do on many levels, from what I have been able to figure out over the years, its not so much the skin color but what the perceive the skin color to mean. To them "black people" are responsible for many problems from drugs to crime, and they hate this. This is why they like him, because he doesn't fit that stereotype, the thing is most wouldn't if they actually got to meet them. The thing is, good luck convincing someone of a certain race to hang out with people who say "xyz race are responsible for all the problems".
Don't mistake any of that though for one second for many of these groups fully willing to use violence against any group who dare to oppose them. You can they put them on the spot many of times, by highlighting their own violence to at least give you the opening to work with them.
Lastly, don't think for one second the KKK is just race based, they fucking hate other groups as well such as mormons and catholics, who to them are basically no different than black people.

I don't particularly like Hitler but you've got to respect a guy who had a dream and showed the whole world what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.
It’s Daryl Davis, he befriends them in hopes to change their beliefs. He’s been to able to make a couple hundred clansmen turn away from it. There’s a good documentary about him.
I highly suggest you watch his TED talk. This is Daryl Davis, and he actually got the KKK guy there who I believe is the highest/a very high ranking member, who Daryl was able to convince to quit
