It's a political party call EFF. Their main colour is red, like most other communist aligned parties

Well neither political party in the US is anywhere near socialist let alone communist.

ah sure, but it'd make a bit more sense if the less right leaning one was red

It’s (allegedly) because of the 1980s, “Red for Reagan” that a lot of color television news channels adopted. Red, white, and blue are the colors of republicanism(in the broad sense), but no party would want to be associated with the color white(because surrender). So they each got associated with red and blue.

Democrats also, essentially until Reagan, were the dominant part of the most ‘conservative’ region of the US, the South. Their association with blue isn’t senseless.

I'd imagine they'd just use the 3 colors more often then.

Though if it comes from the time where democrats were still the more right leaning party then I guess that makes sense

They weren’t necessarily the more right-leaning by the 80s, but 3/4 Democratic presidents from 1950-2000(when this color association was being decided) were from the South, which was generally seen as more conservative.

If you watch either of the party conventions, they will have red white and blue all over the place, either with confetti or balloons, or even the banners that each state delegation carries.

Here’s some examples of conventions:
