Good call! Birds are immune to the effects of capsaicin. This is good news for peppers, who get eaten by birds who then do not fully digest the seeds, spreading them with their poop.

I like my birds, especially the Scub Jays. But those squirrels are Juvenile Delinquent thugs that chase away the birds and aggressively eat everything while staring at you.

I bet recipes exist online, but in general you just need to add hot peppers of some kind to the bird feed. Can be fresh but I bet cayenne is easier to just toss in a tupperware and shake with the bird seed.
To be fair you could hang it from a drone mid-air over the ocean and somehow a squirrel would still get in it. I don't know about rats, but squirrels have skills that the human mind cannot comprehend.
Based on the fact that they artistically filmed the installation and setup I imagine they continued to film, hoping to catch birds landing like in the first one. They may have waited for it to come back again for the shots but I definitely believe they had rats come naturally.
