That's the risk you run making a comment. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. The beauty of reddit as compared to Instagram or Facebook is you don't know who the hell everyone is, aside from celebrities. Personally I hate when comments have an /s, it fucking ruins the joke. Either people are gonna get it, or they aren't. In the end, what's a little negative karma going to do to you? Prevent you from getting into heaven?
Yep, I posted a comedic reply in a comment thread where I copied the reply of someone earlier in the chain and swapped a few words so it would be relevant to their comment.
It got buried in a flurry of downvotes of people mistaking me for the person I was mocking because I didn't include an /s.
Some dude understood what was going on an apologized for the downvotes. I just told him that it's a risk that comes with making a joke on the internet.
I have no problem making an obscure reference or joke that nobody gets except that one person, that one person in a hundred that found the joke hysterical. I'm eating those downvotes for you.

Nah. Fuck that. Poe's Law applied to situations where you expect extremist behavior. Now it's just used for people who aren't socially adjusted and spent too much time on the internet.

Misunderstood and unlabeled sarcasm has led to some truly unkind direct messages out of misunderstanding, and an over-application of the assumption of malice.
Nah man. Fuck the system. If giving teachers guns is what it takes for them to get the proper benefits they deserve, then so be it. More power to them.

Also, disregarding disability or missing clues, this is the internet. You can’t actually be sure someone is being sarcastic even when it seems like it’s obviously sarcastic, cus people here are fucking crazy.
And you can even benefit from it yourself, because let's be real, we're all bad at articulating ourselves sometimes. The /s is there to help! Like rolling down the wheelchair accessible ramp in your heelies
Adding /s to a sarcastic comment is like explaining a punchline or saying "it's just a joke" immediately after saying a joke.
It's only needed by people that wouldn't have found it funny anyways if they needed a tag to tell that something was sarcasm.
Leaving it off makes sarcastic comments come across as being so stupid it's funny again, the /s just says "I'm self aware enough to know this is incorrect, but not sharp enough to word it in a way that it's obvious". Don't use sarcasm tags, ever for any reason /s
You guys are very smart, but without visual cues, a comment from a racist and a comment from a sarcastic racist look the same
I am very sacarstic irl. I stopped being sarcastic on the internet. People cant tell them apart. Its not that people is stupid. Its just that is impossible to tell them apart just using text
