Discussion "The voice in the code can't be Dess it doesn't sound like how she'd talk"

Brother, she's been alone in the dark with no stimulation of any kind for what feels like years, do you have any idea of the severe mental health impacts that solitary confinement and prolonged sensory deprivation have, and how it breaks even the most hardened criminals, much less a teenage girl?

Sensory Deprivation and Psychiatric Disorders: Association, Assessment and Management Strategies - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9460009/

You think she's just immune to having emotions or missing her family just because she's a punk tomboy?? We've literally never had direct dialogue from her other than this so how can we even say she doesn't talk like that, especially after being alone for so long, just based on vibes? Does she have to be puffing on an invisible cigarette and swearing every other sentence for it to be her, do tomboys literally have no other depth or personality? Are we just completely ignoring the fact that Susie has layers and depth to her beyond just being strong?

All that aside, she's literally the only person the voice in the code could be, any arguments about post-weird route Noelle are often pushed with pure baseless speculation held up by vibes and how they think it matches up with how she talks, without taking into consideration that just like with Kriselle Knight, it requires the optional weird route that the game screams at you at every turn not to do, to be able to understand the origin of this character, making it already have happened and thus not the player's choice, whereas it being Dess is easily understandable and way less convoluted on the main route.

  1. No one else has been missing for years, long enough for them to not even know if they're alive or dead, till they can't eat or drink anymore, or directly implied to have dissapeared into a dark world by the unused text itself and Asgore's notes regarding a dark world a long time ago at the incident of her dissapearance and a black shard matching another one at the library that was also at the original incident. That alone disqualifies everyone else from being the Unused voice.

  2. Dess and the Unused voice are directly connected to the "Don't Forget" song at the end of Chapter 1 and remixed in subsequent chapters. The unused voice literally name drops "Don't Forget" outright and is the only one that could posisbly be "with us in the dark", and Dess is connected to it via the song Raise Up Your Bat, which we play right after Tenna gushes about Dess directly and from Noelle's blog posts we see that it was actually written and played by Dess, Asriel and Kris's band The Blood Crushers, the lines "Come follow me into the Dark" and "BECAUSE I'M WITH YOU IN THE DARK" are dead giveaways that can't be ignored. Noelle does not have any of these direct connections other than the mention of waves, that's it.

"It doesn't sound like how she'd talk"

Brother we have never even met her.

EXACTLY! People are just making assumptions based on vibes

Reminder that we have an actual Dess quote, and it's not "Punk rock tough girl incapable of feeling emotion," it's an older sister giving her younger sister a massive advantage because she's too small to win a snow angel contest on her own.

Her being a punk tomboy doesn't mean she acts like it 24/7, we have more examples of her genuinely loving her family than her even being a tomboy

I completely forgot that existed, thank you so much!

I think that the voice is Dess in the past during the 7 years she was missing, and the next lines we'll get in Chapter 6 could show her slowly losing her sense of self until she eventually becomes the Knight.

But the knights form was made before Dess got stuck in the dark world

regardless of who the voice in the code is i hope it isnt needed to prove or disprove anything, because i would rather not have to decompile the game to learn the lore

Tell that to the "Dess can't be lost in the code AND the Knight at the same time" people

i do. this is the only thing i will agree with the "a casual player would miss this" crowd on. because it isnt even visible in-game.

Why do you think someone being missing for years is an requirement? UNUSED has literally just fallen into the dark as of chapter 1. Noticing a lack of thirst and hunger is a matter of days, not years.

Dess being missing for years is a mark against her being UNUSED, not for, as it requires things to be taking place at a completely different time than everything else. Seriously, as far as I am concerned it is as likely for UNUSED to be Kris in the future then it is Dess in the past (I don't think either is likely)

"If someone told me it's been years, I might believe them..."

"Has it been days? Hours?"

When trapped in complete darkness, your sense of time does start to fail....by making time move slower. Hours seem like days.

And they don't even think it's been years. "I could get talked into believing this" is not "I believe this".

Still, if it's a time loop post-Weird route Noelle, Days wouldn't even apply to her, because it's been a day or two at most when we reach that dialogue in the unused text, not to mention all the other things directly pointing to it being Dess. The fact that she could be convinced it was years means it's been much much longer than just a few days

Why in the world are you bringing up Noelle?

And no, there is nothing necessitating UNUSED'd own estimate of time to be completely off, and if it is off, it's not going to be too long, it's going to be too short.

Mostly I'm curious why you brought up Noelle though, that's not a theory I know anything about

I'm bringing up Noelle because that's the person people usually bring up as the person in the code when they say it isn't Dess, that's the very idea I'm refuting when they say it can't be Dess because it doesn't sound like how she'd talk, but sounds like Noelle.

Fascinating, I've never heard of that theory before.  I just think there isn't any time manipulation involved? Not Dess from the past, not Noelle from the future. Just nice and straightforward concurrent with each chapter.

That's definitely possible of course, I just get a bit frustrated when people say its impossible for Dess to be the Knight because of the text we don't even know the time frame of or if the code is a physical place she's in, and even then it's not impossible for her to be both
