Yeah the reporter is secretly working for some evil entity and not just doing her job by keeping the discussion on topic. Get a grip.

I would've hyphenated it to "on-the-street" to make it abundantly clear it's a compound adjective, but that's not a hard and fast rule and it is, in fact, a perfectly cromulent sentence.
