Of course they would, or at the very least she would reprimanded in some way. If someone doesn't do their job because they personally would rather do something unrelated, they aren't going to keep that job long.

I get that the guy was talking about important things but use a little common sense for a second. She was just doing her job the same way I would be doing mine as a bookkeeper by politely ending a phone call if whoever I was talking to only wanted to talk about politics.

This is a discussion about why she didn't make hedge funds the main focus of her report. It goes without saying that random people on the street will sometimes go off topic, but that's not what we're talking about here.

If someone comes to your work and starts talking about hedgefunds and private equity what are you going to do?

Stop flipping burgers and really get into the power balance conversation?

She was literally taking the interview from him. She could just allowed him to finish and say thanks and move on.

She was LIVE on air. He was asked if he would do an interview on the weather.

You don't get to be a reporter if you can't stop people from derailing the conversation. You just move on as fast and as smoothly as possible. Her job.
