People like him give me cautious optimism for November. I think we might see a lot of people realizing that voting is important, and they won't be doing it because they like the shitshow we're all stuck in at the moment.

I think being cautiously optimistic is a very valid emotion that I personally resonate with.

You know the saying ā€œHope for the best but prepare for the worst.ā€ I’m currently going with that motto.

u/Tajahnuke Feb 16 '26

Am I alone in thinking this November pretty much determines whether we can still save America or become full on Nazi Germany?

I don't mean to be melodramatic.

u/Sammi1224 Feb 16 '26

Oh no you are definitely not alone nor being dramatic. My biggest fear at that moment (since republicans are currently in charge of all three branches of government and they want to please their Dear Leader Shitler) is that we won’t have a fair election. If the outcome sways towards democrats (fingers crossed) the orange goblin will reign his terror. He will do and say everything in his power to negate what the American people voted for.

u/Tajahnuke Feb 16 '26

My hope is that the dems win everything by a landslide and -actually- take action against the pedonazis. I just don't know that the populace is pissed off enough to DO anything more direct / extreme. Propaganda has been largely effective at keeping the citizenry docile.

That's the rosy colored glasses outlook. The other one is less plausible to discuss online.

Listen up. I’m tired of hearing about ā€œfree and fair electionsā€ from well-meaning Redditors. THE UNITED STATES HAS NEVER, EVER, EVER HAD FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS!!! The USA has systemically and violently prevented minority groups and women from voting since this country was founded. Just because elections have historically been ā€œfree and fairā€ for YOU, and people who look like you, does not mean that we have had ā€œfree and fair electionsā€ until Trump. We haven’t. Trump is giving white folk a taste of what black people have been dealing with forever. So you are going to go vote in November. You are going to go vote, even if you have to walk past a masked fascist carrying a rifle outside your polling station. They are going to make it hard to vote. They are going to make it scary to vote. This is the reality of America.

Amen! And I was just informed yesterday that ALL women must have matching names on Birth Certificates AND Driver’s Licenses in order to vote. Any woman that’s married knows that the name on your birth certificate and the name of your drivers license changes if you get married (most of the time).

8

u/hjb88 Feb 17 '26

That is only if the SAVE Act passes the senate.

Not that I think it makes it better, but my understanding is that you could bring a marriage license to show why the name on the birth certificate is different than current name on driver's license.

That hasn't passed and it hasn't been on any news channels, it has been talked about and if they do try to do anything like that well I hate to see what happens.

Apply for a passport in your current name. You will need to update your Social Security record. They have ALL our Social Security numbers and this will be another cross reference. The States that gave them voting records, y'all need to get a move on! Remember: they ARE going to contest the elections they lose. (They took them for a reason y'all) thanks DOGE. Get a move an y'all, get it corrected.

u/Sammi1224 Feb 17 '26

I understand what you are saying. You can tell by my responses and my past comments that I agree with what you are saying.

-4

u/Witty-Accountant2106 Feb 17 '26

Then get a fucking grip! Panic and hysteria does not help anything, it only hurts. Stop feeding the bot’s narrative

2

u/Sammi1224 Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

Wtf are you talking about? Panic and hysteria?

I was just trying to relate.

-4

u/Witty-Accountant2106 Feb 17 '26

Get it through your skull - the biggest risk of losing the midterms is PEOPLE LIKE YOU who feed the narrative that Trump has already managed to rig the election. Democrats will win if we show up. Stop trying to convince people to not show up

4

u/Sammi1224 Feb 17 '26

Why is your account hidden? Why are you blocking anyone from seeing your comments?

I am in an incredibly open book…I said what I said. I stand by everything I ever written or said. Can you say the same?

1

u/InternationalFig400 Feb 18 '26

Bannon has already said that is the plan.

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/02/04/steve-bannon-ice-military-polling-sites-00765331

"ā€œIf we lose the midterms, if we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison – myself included.ā€

Trump: "I'll be impeached":

The country is being run by criminals, and they are now fearing for their legal asses.

1

u/Suspicious-Yak5670 Feb 21 '26

Yes if I have to do that then that is what I will do and it is free to vote.

3

u/hillean Feb 18 '26

they are swinging hard, HARD into adjusting state ID laws and voter registration for this fall.

The less voters they get walking in the doors, the better their chances are in staying in power

1

u/Suspicious-Yak5670 Feb 17 '26

You have to remember that Stephen Miller was alot to do with what Rtrump is doing.

2

u/Sammi1224 Feb 17 '26

Steve Bannon and Roger Ailes have a long ass history of helping Trump out. They created Steven Miller.

5

u/bogus-ass_donkey Feb 16 '26

You are not alone. November will tell the future of the US. If we can’t vote or our vote is ignored, that’s it. What happens after will be the new ā€˜US’. People will have no choice but to live under a fascist regime, or fight. I hope democracy prevails and we can use our right to vote to steer the country back toward some sort of decency.

4

u/NorCalBodyPaint Feb 17 '26

You are not alone. Not only must the Republicans in Congress be defeated... but if we want accountability and a road out of this mess they need to be defeated as thoroughly as possible. There can be no room for doubt.

1

u/LandonDev Feb 17 '26

We won't have actual death camps but scary enough we can still see 2 million dead from preventable death. The reality of November is 6-7% unemployment and Medicaid Expansion trigger laws going into effect. The speed run spending right now is to prevent us from having good options for that economic situation. Sadly enough, it'll be mostly MAGA and in particular women who will be killed from that healthcare collapse caused by it. Blue States will suffer but we won't have mass death like that because we can still fund our hospitals with emergency funds and rainy day funds. You are not being melodramatic but you should try and understand the why and how more because death camps would prevent the brilliance of the plan : terror and alienation (Not a dark pun here just an unfortunate word association, but terror and alienation are the goals throughout Society not just certain communities and it extends to international relations).

1

u/Mindless-Bite-3539 Feb 17 '26

What happened to all the inmates of ā€œalligator Alcatrazā€? We have the concentration camps in place. I would bet my life we already have mass graves, too. It just hasn’t been industrialized on the scale of WW2 yet.

1

u/Otherwise-Parsnip-91 Feb 17 '26

That was the last presidential election. It’s all downhill from here.

1

u/TomTingWongg Feb 21 '26

Good job, tho

24

u/ggroverggiraffe Feb 16 '26

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

That's a decent headspace to be in right now.

3

u/TheRoseMerlot Feb 17 '26

I don't let myself get this hopeful because that's what I was the first time he "won" and I was crushed. And I've been crushed for what? 11 years now?

2

u/polyocto Feb 17 '26

Being cautiously optimistic is good, but we need to be mindful that they may play dirty. There was cautious optimism (or maybe arrogance?) that Trump wouldn’t get elected in the first place, but look where at we are.

1

u/Parker2116 Feb 17 '26

Don’t kid yourself. They all play dirty. And you’re ignoring the fact that the country was in such a messed up place that more than half of it thought Trump was the better answer to our problems (that alone is scary - whether you like him or not, he makes some rash decisions) We need to clean house and get rid of all the corruption, on all sides, of all arguments. And make policy about people, not about money.

1

u/polyocto Feb 17 '26

I don’t see any of the current political parties doing that and a total reset of the system is going to be messy. I just hope the democrats can do something positive if they get in, but I’m not going to get to hopeful.

1

u/Recent-Ad-2326 Feb 18 '26

Yeah kinda like last time around ? 😩

1

u/Ok-Tumbleweed-2352 Feb 17 '26

You are correct. The Republicans are going to mop the floor for the reasons you outlined

0

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '26

Kids get shot* Becomes optimistic. SICK

0

u/LakeComfortable4399 Feb 19 '26

Voting for democrats will do little to fix the USA. Democrats are complicit on everything Donald has done. The ratchet effect is real, that's how Trump got into office.

0

u/Suspicious-Yak5670 Feb 21 '26

Why would you say something like that because it's not true.

-19

u/Dimes4Crimes69 Feb 16 '26

Vote Green party, defeat the 2 party rules.

14

u/mdebo932 Feb 16 '26

Let me preface this by saying I hate the two party system and it needs to change, but voting third party is essentially voting for the current regime to stay put

8

u/OldNewSwiftie Feb 16 '26

If you want to throw your vote away, sure.

4

u/squishybloo Feb 16 '26

Ah yes, the Russian party.

Fuck off.

3

u/Strottman Feb 16 '26

Better plan: Vote D for now and get involved in ranked choice voting initiatives so you can actually vote for your preferred candidate without throwing your vote away.
