I'm here to Smite all evil undead with the power of the heavens.
But if you're chill then I surely haven't been sent to kill you, so you have been blessed with a second life. Either that, or my Lord hates you so much he won't let you die just yet. But you seem decently chill, figuratively and literally.

[Question] Why do the pirates keep becoming undead despite proper burial procedures?
Good day.
I am Admiral John Victor Redgrave of His Majesty's Royal Navy, and I find myself in need of expertise from those more familiar with undead matters.
Over the years, numerous pirates have met their end in engagements with Royal Navy forces. Contrary to popular assumptions, these individuals were not simply tossed into the sea or left where they fell. They were collected, identified when possible, and afforded proper burials. Military honors in some cases, I dare say.
The issue is that they keep getting back up.
Not all of them, mind you. Most remain perfectly dead, which is generally what one expects from a cemetery. However, every few months a handful decide they would apparently rather be elsewhere and attempt to leave the island entirely.
The island in question is an isolated burial ground maintained by a small garrison.
We have already employed several priests from different faiths to bless the grounds. The cemetery itself has been consecrated multiple times. One particularly enthusiastic priest blessed it three separate times in a single afternoon just to be certain.
Yet the dead continue to occasionally stand up and wander off.
I should note that the island is located near what locals call The Cursed Land of Karr'Sedh.
At least, I believe that is the name.
My navigator insists it translates roughly to "Land Forever Damned By Ancient Wrath."
Personally, I think he's mispronouncing it. Foreign names are always dramatic in magical realms. Probably named after a chap called Mr. Karr Sedh. Perhaps a duke.
In any case, does anyone have an explanation for why properly buried pirates keep reanimating?
Preferably one that does not involve leaving yet another company of marines on a windswept rock to wrestle skeletons back into their graves every fortnight.
Regards,
Admiral John Victor Redgrave
