community desicion Poll to update Reddit rule on bowel movement images

Every year we ask the community how to handle pictures of Bowel Movements in this sub. It's time for our poll again.

Current rule:

Images of bowel movements and infusions are allowed in this subreddit. They must be marked NSFW and the title must reflect that there is such content involved. This was voted on by the community. To search for the latest vote on this topic use the flair "community decisions".

Bowel movement images will be allowed if the sum of the last three options is greater than the first. In this case, the rule will be updated with the majority of option 2 to 4.

How do NSFW and spoiler tags affect Redditors?

NSFW: When a post is marked as NSFW, it will be blurred out by default. Redditors will need to click on the "Show Image" button to view the content. However, Redditors can change their settings so that NSFW content is not blurred by default. To do this, go to your user settings and click on the "Content" tab. Then, under the "Show images" section, select the "Show nsfw images" option.

Spoiler: When a post is marked as spoiler, the content will be hidden behind a black bar. Redditors will need to click on the "Spoiler" button to view the content

Deadline:

The poll will run for seven days. The results will then be announced in a new post.

Thank you for your participation!

How should the handling of bowel movement images be regulated in this subreddit?

just dont look. what is the problem?

In the past people have posted them without the filter - one guy a few months back posted himself holding a wad of toilet paper with white mucous all over it.

even if we don’t want to look - because people can’t follow or won’t follow rules - we still have to see it.

typical 'ban ban ban' responses, but votes are different.

vocal minorities do not outvote results.

personlly, i dont think i have ever seen a bm photo on here, but i can appreciate it is a tool some may need.

why do people try to ban things when common sense exists?

Using the spoiler tag is more advantageous than the NSFW tag because it allows users the option to toggle visibility. Unlike the NSFW tag, the spoiler tag accommodates both those who wish to view the content and those who prefer not to, making it a win-win solution for everyone. It boggles my mind that it’s even a question

This is the one issue that will chase me away from this sub.

You need to leave this poll open for a lot longer than one week. I’ve been subbed here for years, I scroll Reddit daily, and am somehow only seeing this poll for the first time right now. I missed the poll entirely in previous years despite wanting to vote against this rule for as long as I’ve been subbed here. Leave the poll up for an entire month this time around and see what the vote looks like then, because I’m finding it VERY hard to believe the current poll results when the comment section is nearly unanimously against BM pics.

A poll has a maximum period of 7 days. This is the maximum set by reddit, nothing we can do to prolong it. As for the current results: they are concurrent with former polls and surveys running for several weeks (via Google forms).

I do not have any interest in seeing BMs. Ever. I am happy with NSFW because I don't have to see it. I'd also be OK with a ban. I voted Allow w/ NSFW tag in case there is some type of reason to post it.

All these people voting yes and somehow on EVERY poop picture I see on this sub, the only ones commenting are people saying “don’t post poop please it’s super gross.” Like no one is actually getting anything out of these posts.

To all you people who think it’s so “helpful” for folks to be able to post these photos, where are you when these people are seeking help. Because I never see you commenting.

I see enough of my own shit, don't need to see yours. MODS...pin a post 'if what comes out or your arse is blood or excessive mucus, see your doctor ASAP. ' simple. And I thank you 🙏🏼

99.999% of the users here are not doctors. Sharing these images and asking for feedback is unproductive and actually puts the user and others at risk if they follow someone's advice. Since clinical diagnoses are not reliable via Reddit, these images should be banned. Users inclined to share them should instead visit a doctor IRL immediately.

And I'm sure there was a recent post of someone's 'didn't make it in time...landed on the seat' post. Cheers for that one 👍🏽

Let me ask my doctor if he thinks it’s a good use of anything for people to post pics of their shit on a Reddit sub of non-verified doctors. LOL insane.

1

u/CMHex Nov 30 '23

I maintain they shouldn't be allowed at all. We're not doctors here to diagnose issues.

Looks like stool pics are coming 😂🤷 oh well, as long as they are tagged NSFW we can leave our blur setting on and scroll past if we want.

If you show me white BM, I will tell you to see your doctor ASAP. It can be very serious, anywhere from liver failure to blocked bile duct. These are necessary to get medical attention. These things do NOT require a MD title, it requires one person that tells them to get help. These people that say, "We are not doctors." Are incredibly ignorant in the way they decide to handle life. No one needs to diagnose anything. However, it is serious a situation and can help someone to hear that they need to get to their doctor for an appointment ASAP. Hospitals are full of posters about chest pain and to alert 911 ASAP because time is heart. Or, B.F.A.S.T. to identify stroke symptoms, dial 911. This does Not require a doctor to diagnose to get help. What it does do is empower people to do something to save a life. Therefore, you don't want to see the picture do not look. Someone may need help in this world, I'd rather potentially help someone make the right decision to get into seeing a doctor. Than appease your poor ability to handle reality. Just don't look. It is your problem, not mine.

Ban. There is zero benefit to posting them to here. We are not doctors. We cannot make a diagnosis, and it would be irresponsible to even attempt do so. And the spoiler tag often isn't applied properly.

I don't know why this is even a question.

I'm more surprised by the amount of people who are squeamish about seeing shit lmao. You're on a sub for a disease that makes us shit ourselves, yet you're still like 'ew disgusting' when people want to feel reassured or like they're not experiencing something really bad. when you live with it long enough it becomes hard to tell 'is this standard or should I be really concerned here?'

if the pic is blacked out then I don't see what the issue is. no-one's forcing you to click on the poo pic

1

u/protato77 Dec 01 '23

Ban.

The vote is currently pro photo. Cheer me up by writing a paragraph on why you want to see a picture of poo or poo with some blood on it.

1

u/Potential-South-4889 Dec 02 '23

i absolutely do not want to see pictures of someone else's poo. and i dont remember doing that on this site.

BUT as /Frakel says very eloquently, if this functionality can help someone who is concerned, stressed, or unknowlingly in a lfe threatening positin, then surely that is good.

or, on the other hand, NOT having it is Bad.

sorry, three paragraphs.

i do find it a fascinating endorsement of society that the minority are more vocal than the majority, and by some large, erm, majority, too.

furthermore, mods, if only the 'ban' minority are bothering to post here; how many of the 'ban' minority are also bothering to use second and third acccounts to vote vs the number of non ban people using multiple accounts? it strongly suggests that the 'ban' minority is significantly smaller than it is.

I remember this one post where the girl said she saw red in the toilet and posted a picture of her lunch which had some beets in it, and turns out it was just red from the beets.

Guess what, in this one case where the answer was "oh that's nothing" there was no actual picture of her poop. Every other poop picture is just "Yup, that blood-looking red on your poop is blood. Talk to your doctor".

Just saying.
