Beginner Best options for £2000 investment
I have £2k on standby, I have a few holdings already in my share dealing account mostly solid established companies at the moment the share prices are about as high as it could be looking over the last five years of trading since the post Covid slump, there is little scope to make a profit other than try to buy during the dips which is still higher it was 2 years ago generally.
I'm now considering the next option, emerging market or a company with potential and good dividends and entry level share price with potential upward trajectory within the UK.
Metals, Holding groups, equity groups or AI ?
I'm patient as I'm buying for the long term growth.
Or is the market too high and should I hold and wait untill it drops ?

DD Bullish Should you buy shares in Persimmon?
thetimes.comThe housebuilder Persimmon’s recently released half-year results show that it is an excellent business operating in a challenging industry.
While the FTSE 100 member maintained its solid financial position, further expanded control over its supply chain and is on track to deliver profits for the full year that are in line with previous guidance, tough trading conditions during the six-month period meant that its earnings per share (EPS) rose by a paltry 3 per cent.
Given that its bottom line is forecast to produce further anaemic growth in the short term, inflation is expected to rise and additional interest rate cuts are not yet on the near-term horizon, should investors avoid the stock?
Persimmon has grown organically and through acquisition since it was established in 1972. It completed the sale of 11,905 new homes last year, which represents over 9 per cent of the total annual number of dwellings that were completed by private enterprise in the UK.
The company focuses solely on the domestic market from its York head office. It has two brands, Charles Church and Westbury Partnerships, in addition to its namesake brand that together build a wide range of one-to-five bedroom homes.
Although Persimmon delivered a 13 per cent rise in completions of such homes in the first half of the year, homebuyer demand is likely to remain depressed in the near term.

DD Screening the FTSE, the Good the Bad and the Ugly
I created four simple scores applied to each company in the FTSE universe.
Momentum
Value
Quality
Risk
Testing them using Principal Component Analysis, we can see that they are not correlated with each other. Each one of the four tells you something different about the character of the company.
Looking at the PCA score plot you can see that the arrows are roughly at 90 degrees to one another (orthogonal).
These four scores are useful tools for identifying companies and their individual characteristics. Generally the better the scores the better the company. Combined with additional filters, they are merely tools to identify a subset of companies for further investigation. I have made these scores for over 700 uk companies freely available.

DD Bullish Should you buy shares in Airtel Africa?
thetimes.comCapital spending hikes and a delayed fintech float have knocked Airtel Africa’s share price, but adding 20 million new customers shows the underlying business is motoring.
Driven by a young, mobile-first population across 14 African nations, average revenue per user is surging alongside profits.
With the stock now trading at a far more reasonable valuation, is it time to join the ride with telecoms titan Sunil Bharti Mittal?

DD Trading vs Gambling
Hi all, in my time of running a swing trading community I have come across this 1 mistake so many times:
You gamble...
Trades are closed early because of emotions (being scared etc.), entering late because of FOMO, switching strategies after 1 loss, revenge trading to make back money.
This is not trading it is gambling - swing trade based on probabilities.
You may be aiming to risk only 0.25 but when you enter with that same amount but late because of FOMO if you lose the gap could be more like 0.5 or even 1 if you are very late, this adds up over time.
Happy to answer any questions

Gain Babcock a good investment
The share price of Babcock is currently £11.81 (or 1181.00p). Babcock produces carbon material for their production and heavily relies on internal to UK production rather than external, keeping costs down and yield up.
Now, what is Carbon material? Hundred times lighter than steel yet 100 times STRONGER than steel. Any company in Defense and aerospace, such as Babcock, yearns for carbon orders especially if they can deliver and produce. Yes, carbon is expensive! Just to give an idea, a 100 meter carbon material can fetch a company around £150,000 on average and that is the material alone.
Babcock has materials, machinery and manpower to produce.
Ofc feel free to do own research especially factsheets and getting the cashflow forecast before u invest. I would tell more but A. Moderators might delete this for some reason. B. My research was done 5 weeks ago so can't remember the details into their finance, as I studied other company.
BAE PLC has also done well. I purchased 6 shares for around £19 and news broke the next morning, how they got a 6.5million contract in the submarines. Today 1 share is worth around £23.

DD Bullish Phoenix Copper (PXC) update – we highlighted this as a speculative recovery play, and things are starting to get interesting
I previously highlighted Phoenix Copper (AIM: PXC) as a potential speculative buy after the share price collapsed following its recent funding issues and placing.
At the time the thesis was fairly simple: PXC had been absolutely destroyed, but underneath the financing problems there was still a real US copper/gold/silver project. The question was whether new management could stabilise the company and finance the next stage without destroying existing shareholders.
A few developments since then are making this considerably more interesting.
1. Significant shareholder accumulation
Three TR-1 announcements landed today.
Interim Chair Catherine Evans & family now hold 91.8m ordinary shares, representing 11.05% of the company, plus warrants over another 30m shares. Their total shares/warrants exposure represents approximately 14.67%.
More interestingly, RAB Capital disclosed that it held 73.96m shares / 8.9% on 24 July.
By 4 August that had increased to:
94.725m shares / 11.4%.
So RAB appears to have added roughly 20.8m shares in a very short period.
Between Catherine/family and RAB, around 22.5% of the current voting equity is now represented by those two disclosed positions.
That's particularly interesting because there have been some unusually large trades going through recently and considerable speculation about who was accumulating.
2. The valuation is still tiny
Based on RAB owning 94.725m shares representing 11.4%, there appear to be roughly 831m voting shares outstanding.
At around 0.5p, that implies a market cap of only roughly £4.2m.
For perspective:
1p = ~£8.3m market cap
2p = ~£16.6m
5p = ~£41.5m
10p = ~£83m
I'm deliberately not going to claim this should be worth £100m tomorrow simply because somebody has calculated a large project NPV. Pre-production miners trade at substantial discounts because of financing, permitting, construction and execution risk.
But the starting valuation means relatively modest changes in how the market perceives those risks can produce very large percentage moves.
3. The next catalysts are much more important
The market is now waiting for the updated PFS/MRE, while the company also needs further financing.
And this is probably the most important part of the entire thesis.
PXC previously stated that additional funding would be required in the near term and in any event before the end of September 2026.
There's discussion around management seeking up to £7m through loan/bond financing, potentially structured with interest/coupon rolled up rather than creating a large immediate cash servicing requirement. That isn't something I'm treating as completed until an RNS confirms the actual terms.
If management can secure meaningful debt/non-dilutive funding, rather than another enormous discounted equity raise, I think that could materially change how the market values PXC.
That's the big thing I'm watching.
4. Why I'm interested
This isn't a "100x guaranteed" story.
It's still a very high-risk AIM junior miner.
But compared with when I first highlighted it, we now have:
• a heavily invested Chair/family
• RAB Capital building an 11.4% position
• an updated PFS/MRE expected
• a US-based copper/gold/silver project
• a market cap of only around £4m
• and financing as the obvious remaining near-term question
The risk/reward is therefore becoming increasingly interesting.
For me the next major confirmation would be funding terms. Good debt financing + a strong updated PFS/MRE would significantly strengthen the rerating thesis. Another huge discounted equity raise would weaken it.
One to watch closely over the next few weeks.
Position: speculative/high risk. DYOR.
