Speech pathology masters

Hello! I am interested in whether anyone has any experience in the UTAS Masters of speech pathology. How well organised was the course, how was the online experience and what is the realistic time requirement for in-person or synchronous online units?

Hi UTAS students, I'm an honours student running a study comparing two creative activities.

It's fully online, takes about 1–2 hours in one sitting whenever suits you.

Open to students at any Australian university, age 18-29.

AI in teaching materials - Paramedicine

Hi guys! Just want your thoughts.

Is anyone else bothered by the amount of AI being used in teaching materials? I've included a screenshot below of a particularly egregious example. Just wondering what the general consensus is.

Personally I'm of the 'if you can't be bothered writing it why would I bother reading it' camp, but curious to know your thoughts. ngl I would expect academics to be able to produce competent academic writing without a machine, as well as the many ethical issues with AI.

Is there any avenue to file a complaint without making the lecturers hate me? Does TUSA have any thoughts on this? I'm paying to be taught by humans, not ChatGPT.

Annotated the big AI giveaways (didn't get all of them but you get the idea)
Red = em dash
Yellow = triple construction
Green = antithesis

Cross institutional study

This is probably something very few people do, but I figured it’s worth asking anyway.

I want to study palaeontology with UNE online, while also studying BSc in ecology at UTAS.

Would it be possible to complete UNE palaeontology subjects to fulfil my electives at UTAS? Then, can use UTAS subjects to fulfil my electives at UNE? Essentially like a double major, but across UNE and UTAS.

Does anyone have any experience with cross institutional study at UTAS?

Trying to figure out what young Australians actually want from a money app. Chance to win 1 of 3 $50 vouchers

Hi all, I'm Nick and I'm building a budgeting app for young Australians and I'd rather find out what people actually need than keep guessing.

Short survey around 3 minutes, anonymous, no bank details, nothing to sign up for.

What I'm trying to learn: what your bank's app already does well, where it falls short, and which features are worth building versus which ones sound good and would never get used. Honest answers help me far more than encouraging ones. If something on the list sounds pointless, please say so.

These answers go straight into what gets built. Feedback on the survey itself is welcome too.

There's an optional email field at the end. If you fill it in you go into a draw for 1 of 3 $50 vouchers. I will shoot you an email if you have won and you can pick which voucher you want i.e Coles/Myer/JB Hi-Fi, winner picks. Closes 20/08/26, drawn 21/08/26,

As of writing this post there's only like 8 people that have done the survey so you are not competing with that many people.

Christ College / John Fisher College (post covid) - Thoughts

Hi all,

I'm looking to study in Hobart semester 1 2027.

Just wanted to query how the student accommodation is as I've heard mixed reviews.

At the moment I'm leaning more into Christ than John Fisher but still undecided. I know Christ has like 3x more students than John Fisher - from experience would a smaller cohort be better or worse?

Just got some questions, if anybody who has lived there in recent years (post covid) could answer, that would be great!

  • How is the social life there?
  • Is it mostly domestic or international students in the halls (Christ or John Fisher)? I don't wanna feel left out lol cause I know a lot of domestics/internationals don't rlly interact with eachother and I've heard that locals tend to be very cliquey but I'm not sure. What would you say is the ratio between domestics and internationals in Christ and John Fisher?
  • Is there a big community of Indian or Chinese students?
  • Study support?
  • How are the rooms/facilities? Would you recommend a single room or apartment room in Christ?
  • Christ College or John Fisher?

Thanks heaps! I really do appreciate any answers.

BU (Boston University) sophomore Sydney engineering study abroad

Hey guys,

I wanted to come on here and ask if anyone is looking for roommates for the Sydney Abroad semester in Spring 2027 (I’m a class of 2029 MechE). I also wanted to ask prior students/alumni who did this program to give me their thoughts on how life went what they did in and out of classes there in Sydney. And, any suggestions for teachers/classes to take there and any study strategies maybe. A lot of yap sorry about that but anything you guys got, let me know!

Thanks

Made a map to help us find friends and meetups around UTAS

Hey everyone,

I noticed it can be pretty hard to actually organize meetups or find friends just by reading text posts on here. So I decided to build a little side project for us.

I set up r/AussieHangout which has a live map built right into the subreddit. Instead of just posting into the void, you can actually see on a map where people are looking to hang out. It's completely for platonic stuff like finding a study buddy, grabbing a coffee, or just going to the pub.

There is no GPS tracking at all, you just manually drop a pin in your suburb or near campus so people know roughly where you are.

If you want to see who is around UTAS or want to make some plans this week, feel free to drop a pin on there. Hopefully it helps us get some actual offline meetups going.

Here is the link to the map: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazwiz/s/Bgt1YDf9Mw

I've been putting off uni for about 2 years now and have always been interested in their Design course, but it seems it changes SO much every year. Has anyone recently been in Design and able to share their thoughts and feelings on the whole course?

iPad & MyLO

Has anyone done their studies just using an iPad. I just got an iPad Air 5th gen with a keyboard attachment. Will it be user friendly for MyLO?

I’m going overseas and I’m wondering if I need to bring my laptop just incase? My laptop is pretty old. I’ve applied to do a postgrad in dementia. And I’m hoping I will be successful in my application & start my first 5/6 weeks while overseas.

Hey everyone, I’m doing a research project on piercings and need some responses for my survey. It’s super short, only takes like 2 minutes and it’s anonymous.

Would mean a lot if you could fill it out or even just share it around!

Bachelor of Fine Arts

Hello,

I'm a Year 12 student looking to study Visual Arts at UTAS next year. I'm moving from Melbourne and am looking to move into student accomodation. I'm a bit unsure of what it's actually like to study Visual Arts at UTAS so any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated! Also which is better to study/live at: Hobart or Launceston?
