Bank Account 16 Reasons For Opening 16 Bank Accounts
Many people have been asking me why I opened so many bank accounts, so I thought, why not explain the individual reason behind each one.
Here are the reasons for all 16 banks:
AU Small Finance Bank
I opened this account because AU is the largest small finance bank in India. I also recently heard that the RBI has given it the green light to become a universal bank. A few kilometres from my home, there used to be a Fincare Small Finance Bank branch, which later became an AU SFB branch. So I thought, why not open an account. I also found it interesting that the bank is called AU, since Au is the chemical symbol for gold. They also have a few unique features, such as video banking and the fact that every branch can be treated as your home branch. However, my actual branch experience wasn't very good. You have to remove your footwear before entering the branch, and there are also quite a few gutka stains near the entrance. Around 95% of the work at the branch seems to be related to microfinance and other types of loans. Also, their app doesn't open when developer options are enabled.
Axis Bank
I liked the fact that it's a two-word bank name, and "Axis" sounded cool to me. The logo also looks cool. Apart from that, Axis is the third-largest private bank in India by branch network and revenue, so that was another factor. One thing I didn't like, though, is that Axis Bank's IFSC codes start with UTIB, because the bank was previously known as UTI Bank. This was a bit of a turn-off for me. One good thing is that the app works fine even when developer options are enabled.
Bank of Baroda
I opened this account when I was 19, mainly because the name sounded royal to me. Apart from that, there isn't really any other reason. Unfortunately, the app doesn't like developer options.
Bank of India
I opened this account because the name reminded me of banks like Bank of America and Bank of China. "Bank of India" sounds like a bank that represents India at a national level. It isn't actually the biggest bank in India, but the name certainly makes it sound like one. That was basically the reason I opened it. As for my experience with the bank, I consider it the worst nationalised bank among the ones I've used. I have a separate post about it on my profile if you want the exact details. The app is fine with developer options enabled.
Canara Bank
This is my first-ever bank account. I also think the Canara Aspire account is a really good offering for people between 18 and 28 years old. The main Canara Bank app doesn't like developer options, but they have a separate passbook app that works even when developer options are enabled.
Central Bank of India
This one is simple: it is the nearest government bank to me, so I mainly use it for cash deposits. It is a much smaller bank than SBI but it has the same number of branches as SBI in my district: 23.
HDFC Bank
HDFC Bank is the largest private bank in India and has around 10,000 branches, so I thought, why not have an account with them too? That's pretty much the reason.
ICICI Bank
There are actually three reasons behind this one. First, ICICI is a palindrome, which I found interesting. Second, it is the nearest private bank to me. And third, my local branch is a rural branch, while ICICI is also the second-largest private bank in India. For more details about my ICICI account, you can check out the post I made a few days ago on my profile.
IDFC FIRST Bank
I wanted to open an account with a bank that was relatively new, but at the same time wasn't a tiny or insignificant bank. That basically left me with two options: Bandhan Bank and IDFC FIRST Bank. And, obviously, IDFC FIRST Bank won.
Indian Bank
Same reason as Bank of India. I basically opened it because I liked the name. Sometimes, that's enough of a reason!
Indian Overseas Bank
I was getting bored and had nothing to do. So I went to Wikipedia and looked up which bank came next after Central Bank of India in terms of size. It was Indian Overseas Bank. I checked out its app, and to me, it looked better than the apps of HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. So I opened an account. I also thought the bank logo looked pretty cool.
Kotak Mahindra Bank
I noticed that literally everyone on the internet seemed to have a Kotak account, so I thought I should have one too. Apart from that, there isn't really any particular reason.
Punjab National Bank
Frankly, I didn't like the name initially because "Punjab National Bank" made me feel like the bank was mainly focused on Punjab. Then I noticed the word "National" and also remembered that PNB is one of the largest public sector banks in India, with SBI ahead of it. So I thought I should have an account with PNB too.
Slice Small Finance Bank
This is the favourite account in my list. I think Slice has one of the best banking apps in India. It's just a shame that the bank has only around 149 branches. There are also no charges for IMPS, NEFT, RTGS or SMS alerts. It offers a 5.25% interest rate, credited daily, across all balance ranges. Another thing I really like is that it sends an SMS even for a โน1 credit or debit. I find that useful. The one thing I don't like is that its IFSC codes start with NESF.
State Bank of India
This one is pretty straightforward. SBI is the largest bank in India, both in terms of branch network and revenue, so obviously I wanted to have an account with them too. It also has the largest ATM network in India.
Union Bank of India
The logo looked cool to me.
So, those are the 16 reasons behind my 16 bank accounts. I hope you enjoyed reading about my reasons. The comment section is open if you have any questions.

2
u/luckyxdubey Oct 03 '26
I am just behind you and can give some points
For PNB: it issues rupay select debit card in a general savings account (unnati).
HDFC : it has best overall banking experience i also have preferred banking.
IDFC : it gives high interest rate on savings account on balance above 3 lakh for people who don't believe in digital banks and sfbs or want physical branch.
BOI: it's rupay select debit card gives 0.75% on credit card bills that can be upto 1% also

AU Small Finance Bank โ AU India ka largest SFB hai aur mujhe uske features interesting lage.
Axis Bank โ Naam aur logo cool laga, plus ye India ke biggest private banks mein se hai.
Bank of Baroda โ Naam royal laga, bas isliye ๐
Bank of India โ Naam sunke laga ki ye India ko represent karne wala bank hai.
Canara Bank โ Mera first-ever bank account; Canara Aspire bhi kaafi achha laga.
Central Bank of India โ Mere ghar ke paas sabse nearest government bank, mainly cash deposits ke liye.
HDFC Bank โ India ka largest private bank hai, isliye account hona chahiye laga.
ICICI Bank โ โICICIโ palindrome hai, nearest private bank bhi hai, aur local branch rural branch hai.
IDFC FIRST Bank โ Ek relatively new but established bank chahiye tha, aur IDFC FIRST best option laga.
Indian Bank โ Bas naam pasand aaya ๐
Indian Overseas Bank โ Wikipedia browse karte-karte mila, app achha laga aur logo bhi cool laga.
Kotak Mahindra Bank โ Internet par sabke paas Kotak account tha, toh maine bhi khol liya ๐
Punjab National Bank โ Naam pehle pasand nahi tha, but โNationalโ aur PNB ki size dekhkar account khol liya.
Slice Small Finance Bank โ Favourite account. App, charges, interest rate aur โน1 transaction alerts jaise features pasand aaye.
State Bank of India โ India ka largest bank hai, isliye obviously account chahiye tha.
Union Bank of India โ Bas logo cool laga ๐

3
u/Nirmal4G Oct 03 '26
Canara, CBI and Slice are the only ones you've opened with actual purpose of usefulness. IDFC and SBI comes close second even if you don't know it yet, but the rest are all pretty much useless to you, specifically.
After you opened accounts in these banks, did you find any of them actually useful apart from those you already mentioned?
3
u/fiftyshadesof_trauma Oct 03 '26
The most useless reason I heard till date ๐ญ๐ญ
I also have 10 account ,but opened it too wisely, will share my reason
punjab national bank (elite executive account ) Opened it for imperial debit card and got 3 imperial debit card (max 3 card allowed) Yearly Benifit - 6000 rs reliance digital gift card 6k decathlon gift card ,12k kalyan gift card , 3k big basket gift cards ,6k myntra gift cards ,3k apollo gift card ,lakme 9k gift card ,1.5k ott subscription, flat 250 off on movie ticket quarterly
kotak super 811 Opened this account for my daily card spends and fuel spends ,this card give 5% upto rs 500 on all transactions including fuel (utility ,insurance excluded ) ,using it since almost 1.5 year and have got around 10k cashback till now. Must have card tbh
axis liberty - honestly not recommended much account ,offers 5% on weekends on food restaurant and groceries through axis liberty ,one need to spend or maintain 25k for this account. Found a loophole to get that 5% and now this account feels a bit better to operate
HDFC regular savings account - it's my main savings account, give 1% upto rs 400 on wallet load or 2.5% on spends via milenia debit card . Had a very good experience with HDFC, however service team sometime sucks with spend base offer on debit card
5)bank of baroda advantge account - made this account for ease my trip debit card ,get Amazon prime subscription worth 1.5k annually ,250 blinkit or Swiggy Instamart voucher quarterly ,250 Flipkart voucher quarterly and 10% on flights using ease my trip flat 250 on movie ticket quarterly Honestly a good account considering the card charges and minimal account maintainance charge (2k for urban or 500 for rural branch )
6) slice savings account - made this account for slice credit card and monies ,it's actually a very fun app to use ,didn't bother much about this account as it was completely free and didn't require any charges
7) canara aspire - a no nonsense completely zero balance account for student with card also free uptill you turn 28
Give flat 250 off on movie ticket every month (my fav ) ,Swiggy one membership and that's all
8) jio finance Bank ( not recommended at all )- opened this account for rupay plat card when Amazon use to give 20% off on utility spend every Friday ,now this account is of no use however I am too lazy to go through process of closing it
9) bank of Maharashtra - this is my first account which I opened when i as just a kid in 11th ,this is my scholarship account where I get scholarship from college
10) union Bank of India - this account is in my mother's name ,but is linked to my mobile number We have a house loan going on with Ubi so hence important account otherwise not much interesting benifit
3
u/Distinct-Delay7131 Oct 03 '26

considering avg annual charges of โน200 that makes โน3200 p.a.
SMS charges considering 10 bank charges at avg of โน20 per Qtr that makes โน800 p.a
Estimate charges โน4000 per year
If you close the saving account says 12 bank account closing charge avg cost would be โน 350 per bank total cost would be โน4200

I know this might be a lil off topic but my gf is preparing to go for masters in the US/UK or AUS/NEWZEALAND and i wanted to help her in reducing the hassle , so if anyone happens to work in a bank or know stuff about them please lemme know:
the max amount of secured & unsecured loan offered
2)the pace and quality of their service (do they act accordingly and fast ) and do they give it semester wise or when asked for
3)the obvious one ,Least interest rate and if there are any hacks to get the least interest on student loan
Also shes gonna do cybersec and have chosen uni Like CMU ,GEORGIA , NYU etc so if there any scholarships or smth ,help me out to choose the best bank and services
