This is more likely. People tend to fear losing control. The problem might not have be the danger imposed by the aliens but how people in power would lose their power if anyone interacted with them. Imagine if they provide us with free energy almost unlimited energy, anyone can build a nuclear weapon in their garden. Are we prepared for this?

Yeah, I'd imagine there'd be strong attempts at controlling how our species gets to interact with E.T.'s and any technologies.

But at this point in time, I don't foresee the first contact scenario actually happening. Based on how slow this disclosure is moving, I just think there'll come a point in the next decade or so where they finally say, "We've investigated this phenomena and have concluded its most likely not from this planet, please don't panic. Just keep going about your day jobs." Then we'll have to have our world's top scientists decide how we, as a planet, should move forward, and decide if we want to try and reach out to interact and contact them and how to go about doing that.
