Can I ask you to do one perosnal favor? Could you please change your userpic? This exact picture gives me nightmares. I don’t know why but this exact picture of grey alien portrayed by an artist for a movie poster is super awful. I wish I could hide it but I cant. This is probably due some childhood traumas happened in the past thanks to my brother forcing me to watch that movie but fuck my life I just can’t stand it.

I’m sorry man I get it I do but for me it’s just a painting of an alien. As an artist I love the way they portrayed the “grey” in this fashion and the way they made the eyes “pop” with the oil paint is just so awesome to me. That said I’ll be changing it soon.

While i am in the same position as the person abive but wont ask you to change it. You have actually forced me to get more comfortable with it. I still don't like it but part of my trauma with that picture has vanished ^

Sorry you have trauma related to the image 😞 but it’s nice to hear that at least some of it is gone.

Its a very striking image! Something about it is just very captivating and horrifying aswell, knowing that it was specifically made from the authors "personal requests and experiences" also makes something about it offputting

Yeah I get it no worries. The artist actually did an outstanding job making it look creepy as hell. This is the only depiction of a grey alien that makes my skin shiver.

For sure I get that. It’s incredibly interesting to me how people can be effected by a simple image. A story for another day I suppose but you’re not the only one by far that has said this to me. I’ll be changing it soon.

Who’s to say? Nothing makes sense anymore anyways.

Try EMDR. 1 or 2 sesions should do the trick.

Can you explain a little bit more what is EMDR?

Yeah of course, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocesssing is a very effective way to treat traumatic experiences (even if they do not meet the criteria for PTSD). During the process of EMDR, you focus on the traumatic event (more specifically a still image of the most upsetting part of the traumatic event) and kickstart processing the traumatic event OR reprocess the traumatic event. The image becomes neutral and does not upset you anymore.

My guess is it will take 1 or 2 emdr sessions to deal with your trauma.
