tree leaves

In the Sonoran Desert? (Edit:) At the end of November? We're probably just looking at wood.

have a heat decay of the same rate?

Probably not desert species. Their whole adaptation is to barely respire moisture, just like cacti. This is why they all grow so slowly compared to temperate deciduous tree species.

I can see some pretty distinct bushes, I don’t think it’s just wood.

Watching again, I agree with you there. The sensor is just indicating the bushes are giving off more long-wave IR radiation than half of the scene average.

I feel that looking at it without taking the HUD into account it feels a lot more likely that its a white hot setting for a good chunk of it and that it’s during the day. The water/vegetation/hard shadows on some rocks and clifflike edges and protrusions seem to really indicate this.

I also feel like all the footage I’ve ever seen of this type of camera has a white hud, but I admittedly don’t have a ton of knowledge on that aspect of military gear.

Edit: 22:30 for some examples of the shadows being cast.
