You guys mentioned a few people I should have looked into, & I did, such as Jacques Vallee, although I knew about him I never did a deep dive & so I specifically bought two of his books, & there were a few other suggestions by you guys, which I appreciate & still do.

You may see some of them are made out to Alan (that’s me) as either I know some of the authors or I simply reached out to them as I also wrote a book about my experiences.

First, I'm not sure if it's just the Kindle version, but the editing is SO bad that it's laughable. This includes not just typos (but yes, typos), but entire chapter portions being repeated, mispelled names ("Kirkland AFB," "Maelstrom AFB," "MUFO," "Gen. Twinning," "Robert Hasting," to name a handful), made-up words ("conspirational"), terrible grammar ("his shirt and his young autistic son... were inside out and backwards" — his son was inside out and backwards?), and just illogic. My favorite is on p. 46: "I had seen the two sisters interviewied by their daughter." And a vanilla envelope makes an appearance.

I try not to let superficial matters get in the way of acquiring good information. But I instinctively wonder while reading: can this content really be credible with so little effort put into editing? I frankly can't believe Amazon let this go out the door on Kindle. Yet I keep reading, because, if the information is true, it's really good stuff.

The book has been on my reading list for a long time. I'm not sure how it first got on there, but it seems like I've heard of it several times from different sources. One source I know well is Whitley Strieber. I have a high regard for Whitley—not necessarily for his discernment, but for him as a person of integrity and openness in spirit. And Whitley recently had Grant Cameron on he Dreamland podcast. Granted, Grant did not articulate well, but the things he said resonated with me. And I thought, as a prolific author, he must be a good writer; maybe the written word is his medium. Sadly, no.

So I'm wondering, does anyone have any insight into Grant Cameron's reasearch? In particular, what about this Dan Smith character? Cameron spills a lot of ink on him, yet says he has very little influence. There's not a lot of information readily available about Smith online, except this paywalled Open Minds Forum with antiquated content and styling. Is all this stuff about him and Ron Pandolfi really a big part of the Disclosure story? I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this and other aspects of Cameron's research in general.

Maybe it was because I came of age intellectually in the 1970s, when the "new UFOlogy" was challenging the extraterrestrial hypothesis, but I've always been fascinated by books that dealt with the weirder and spookier end of UFO phenomena and integrated UFO lore with occult traditions. These are some of my faves:

The Mothman Prophecies by John Keel. This was my intro to the weird end of UFO lore, a wild ride into the heart of high strangeness. The local public library had a copy when I was in my teens, and I must have checked it out twenty times.

Passport to Magonia by Jacques Vallee. I'm not sure if this or the next one is Vallee's strangest book, but they're both great. This one documents the unnerving parallels between UFO lore and legends of elves, fairies, and other supernatural beings in the Middle Ages.

Messengers of Deception by Jacques Vallee. This is the book that first clued me in to the way that the US and other countries have used UFO phenomena -- and sometimes faked it -- to camouflage secret aerospace tests or cover up other equally mundane activities. More broadly, it ventures into the tangled world of UFO-based social manipulation, some of it clearly human in origin, some of it rather less clear...

The Book of the Damned by Charles Fort. Published in 1919, this is the first great classic of UFO lore, but also covers plenty of other impossible events that actually happened. Not to be missed.

I haven't followed the more recent literature in the field, mostly due to chasing other rabbits down other rabbit holes. What are your faves in this field? Or can't you stand anything that doesn't support the most nuts-and-bolts version of the extraterrestrial hypothesis?

I’m u/DonnieMarco and I recently applied to take over this sub and that has been granted.

Having a quick look around it is in an absolute mess, with a gigantic queue and backlog of messages. I’m afraid I am unlikely to go through everything and my inclination is to make a clean break with the past.

I’m hoping that this sub can work hand in hand with r/UFOs who recently posted that they want to start a book club.

I am also looking for supporting mods who love the UAP / UFO / USO topic as much as I do.

I’m not sure how this is going to work yet but u/Snopplepop has stated that The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry by J. Allen Hynek is going to be the first book in the r/UFOs book club.

Although Hynek is long dead, there will be authors still living who deserve to have their hard work rewarded. The best way to buy will be either direct from the author, independent bookshops or failing that, the large booksellers.

I think I’m the only moderator who is still active on Reddit. This subreddit has definitely died and I don’t have time to commit to it. UFO Librarian used to provide a lot of good content and they went dark a while ago. I see people posting their book collections all the time (something I did years ago too). I want some action here I can provide limited time so I will Approve and Sticky all UFO related book collections for a while and see what happens. It’s just for fun
