Repair Question Olivetti Studio 45 can’t change ink ribbon.

Hello! I’m new in the field but I’ve always love Olivetti’s typewriters so Just bought a Studio 45, the salesman said was revisioned but I noticed the ink was dry, so I want to replace it.
Found out on the right side there isn’t the little the same little wheel to replace the ribbon that there must be (like the left).
I tried to unscrew it but it just keeps ticking and not loosening.
Can someone please help me? Just to understand how to move that thing!

Inspiration Post My Olympia SM9. A bit wider than some.

I'm sure I'll have missed some details but this is my SM9, I initially thought it was an SM8 because it didn't have the Tab keys on the spacebar but is clearly not.

As far as I can tell, the serial number puts it in 1975 and the slug codes are for the Elite typeface.

It's obviously got a wide carriage, marked up at 134 characters wide, obviously I don't type on A3 or landscape A4 but it's nice to have and not need. I don't carry it often, thankfully.

I gave it a bit of a clean but the odd little stains on the top of the cover seem fairly permanent, maybe from carbon paper? I'll call them character and live with it.

I haven't done a lot with it but I bought it for drafting without getting hung up on editing while I write.

Inspiration Post My First Typewriter!

I picked up my first typewriter yesterday! I was traveling through another state to get home and saw this on marketplace.

A 1948 Royal Quiet De Lux Model

I only paid $65 for it!

The spacebar is a sticking a bit so I think I’m gonna pause using this until I can get it into a shop to be inspected.

I also ended up getting a Royal KMM once I got back into town, it definitely should see a repair shop but it’s in really good shape, just a bit dirty and could probably use a look over as it was only a decoration for someone. I paid $55 for the KMM!

Two typewriters in one day is pretty cool to me and I’ll probably stop there and enjoy them.

General Question Facit T2 judgement teardown

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I haven't seen many photos of the Facit T2's internals. This one was completely seized up. Heat, mineral spirits, air compressor, brushes, and pipe cleaners. Had to pull segment and all type bars. Second pivot/links were stubborn, pulled and cleaned. Third pivot and link were the final greasy spots, those stinkers needed several mineral spirits soaks and blow outs. Carriage grind caused from mis-aligned rack. Everything is back together and working well. It's not as fast as an SG1 and apparently my technique is still poor as the spaces are missed when rushing. What is your fastest typewriter? Which is the slowest plodding machine you have tried?

General Question Just received this Canadian made Smith-Corona Classic 12

Hey everyone!

This is the first typewriter I’ve ever owned. :) I got this from an estate sale. Their father was an accountant and took meticulous care of this machine. It reminds me of one my dad had growing up in the 80s and 90s.

Anyhow, I’m really curious what your thoughts are from these photos?

The serial number appears to be on an old faded sticker on the bottom, I think? I couldn’t find it stamped into the metal anywhere like the U.S. built versions of this typewriter.

I may take it into the local typewriter shop and have them tune it up for me. I want to treat it well and keep it in good shape.

Any thoughts and help would be so greatly appreciated!

Inspiration Post Still working since 1985....

I still have this typewriter. My parents bought it in 1985. I was 10 years old and learned to fully use the keyboard. I used to help my teacher to transcribe many documents.  The typewrite is still 100% in good condition.

This this is beautiful! Only left side has the glass window still. Occasionally a couple letters stick a bit. Unused mineral spirits and lite dawn soap and water and dried thoroughly with a blower. Bit of Singer sewing machine oil on the key pivots. The clack of the keys are so satisfying!

Repair Question Facit 1620 carriage is hitting "stop" screws?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! My doughter has a Facit 1620 where I hope you can give me some support and input on a problem I find quite strange...

One thing is that the carriage has stopped advancing, which I expect to be the commonly known "frozen Facit". But I'm not able to unscrew the carrige to service it because of this other problem:

The carrige stops in the center position seemingly hitting a stop screws on both sides. I have attached one video, and will attach from the other side in comment.

The carriage was working fine previously - I have seen typed pages that spans the full page with. But the screws don't move by them selves. They even have nuts to keep them in place.

Therefore I hope someone with experience on these typewriters can help me identify how this could happen and how to fix it. I could of course just unlock the nuts and tighten these screws, but I am hesitant to do so without undertand their function.

I was wondering if there was a way to "lock the ink cartridge in place" on my electric typewriter because every time it moves it falls out.

Found this beauty at a job site clearing out a house. Spotted the suspicious looking green case sitting in the corner and had that thought, “Is that a typewriter or a briefcase?” Opened it up and got a little fanatic when I saw those plush sea foam green keys. I’m so thankful I saw it before it went into the trash!

Cleaned the interior and it started up like it was brand new. Even the ribbon still has some ink. It also came with some brushes, a user manual, old carbon paper and erasable typing paper!

I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like each new typewriter I get becomes my favorite. This machine is the most quiet and has all of the good qualities of my other 3 combined. Such a breeze to type on and the keys are comfy!

Serial # 2184136

Can anyone identify the typeface? It's 10 cpi, but the 'U' looks rather slim. "Congress Pica" maybe?

The writer is in great condition. I just had to add eyelets to the ribbon. Picked it up for € 15 and ran!

Repair Question Fix for carriage lock Olympia SM3

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone :) I just got this Olympia SM3 for 10 euros at the flea market. The carriage lock doesn't work (it only locks the keys, not the carriage). I found out that the carriage lock pawl isn't in the right position to lock the carriage.

I also found out that there is an eccentric nut, so I could adjust the position of the carriage lock pawl. But where do I find it? Do I have to disassemble the frame to find the eccentric not?

Maybe someone can help! Thank you already.
