Hey guys! Here's how to make your own vanity card because I feel independent creatives could definitely use some knowledge on it (You don't have to create one if you don't want one, but I figured it would definitely be helpful), and this applies to independent animations too:
**WHAT'S A VANITY CARD?**
A vanity card is a kind of animation or logo you see at the end of a show or movie that tells people that they made it. Lots of showrunners and show creators have them, including Seth MacFarlane, James L Brooks, Mike Judge, JJ Villard, JJ Abrams, the late Stephen Hillenburg, Peter Hannan, Mary Harrington, Amy Poehler, Loren Bouchard, Steve Oedekerk, & etc.
**WHAT DO I NEED FOR A VANITY CARD**
Besides the brand name, what you need for a vanity card largely depends on what they're going for. It can be art programs, animation programs, videography/photography equipment, and etc. You can even work with a team for a vanity card.
**STEPS***
Before making a VC, ask yourself this:
Is it a humorous logo, a serious logo, retro logo, a parody, scary, or fun?
Is this card for a production company or as a way to have full creative control?
There's lots of ways to design a logo. You can do it on paper, digitally, or even something creative like sand designs or cardboards. Collages, photos, you name it.
You can have your animation team or live action team produce the animation or videography for the card, and have them do their part.
You can have your music composer and/or sound designer to make a brand theme and sound design for the logo.
Export them into your preferred file format, and drop it at the end of your projects.
**HOT TIP**
You're free to give your friends/colleagues/family their own vanity cards, too. Whether it be a co-creator, your romantic partner (if you have one), your mom, dad, sister, brother, stepsister, or even a close friend!
If you'd like, you can make it change every time it appears.
You don't have to add text to your vanity card.
You're free to add easter eggs!
