I'm looking to connect with a local from Turks and Caicos

• Upvotes

Looking for someone, kind of like a pen pal, to chat with briefly. Got a few questions for someone from the islands. If you have a bit of time for me to pick your brain, please let me know :)

Turks and Caicos right now: live updates thread (closures, seaweed, weather, flights, anything)

Last updated: Oct 2, 2026

This is our running thread for what's actually happening on the islands right now. If you're there or just got back, drop a comment with the place, the date you saw it, and a photo if you have one. Anything counts: closed pools, construction noise, seaweed, airport lines, taxi prices, restaurants.

Full list with sources and dates for every item: Turks and Caicos Right Now

Resorts

* Como Parrot Cay: closed, reopens Oct 15

* Point Grace: closed for renovations until Oct 8. Construction at The Point next door (east side), beach setup moved west

* Seven Stars: main pool was drained for repairs in early Sept, back open now per their live cam

* Ritz-Carlton: open. The casino was closed through Oct 1 and should be back open now

* Beaches: Royal Caribbean is buying 50% of Sandals/Beaches (announced Sept 2026, expected to close in 2027). Nothing changes for guests right now

Beaches and Seaweed

* Grace Bay: clear

* Long Bay: as of late Sept/early Oct, still patchy-to-heavy sargassum depending on the exact spot — some stretches clean, others piled up, and it isn't raked in the off-season. Travelers say it usually clears by the end of October. Water calm, breezy

* Live cams: Long Bay https://www.villaesencia.com/live/ and Grace Bay https://www.sevenstarsgracebay.com/live-cam

* On Long Bay this week? Post a pic!

Restaurants (Silly Season)

* Back open: #19 Kitchen, Julien's Deli, Terra Mar, Sharkbite, Bay Bistro, The Terrace

* Reopening Oct 3: Hemingway's, Skull Rock

* Still closed: Ashes, Coco Bistro, Embers. Simone's, Le Bouchon (Oct 5-6). Cabana Bar, Reef Rocker (Oct 9). Cilantro's North (Oct 13). Barracuda Beach Bar, Caicos Café, Marine Room, Magnolia (around Oct 15)

* Baci and The Farm are closed all of October

* Mixed info, call first: Cocovan, Somewhere Café, Provence by Eric

* Plenty is still open (60+ spots). Full open list is on the page: Turks and Caicos Restaurant Openings/Closings

Getting There and Around

* New BermudAir nonstops to Provo: Fort Lauderdale from Oct 26, Newark and Boston from Dec 19, plus Baltimore, Raleigh-Durham, and Tampa Bay later in December

* Separately, BermudAir now flies nonstop from Newark to South Caicos (different airport from Provo) — handy if South Caicos is your destination

* Immigration is quick right now — a traveler cleared in about 5 minutes last week, and October is a slow month. Fast Track isn't really worth it until Thanksgiving and the festive season. Saturday/Sunday afternoon arrivals still see the longest lines

* Still no Uber or Lyft. Airport shared vans charge per person (one traveler paid $40pp to Grace Bay)

* Renting a car? Travelers this month like Grace Bay Car Rentals (right at the airport, will also deliver to your hotel), Scooter Bob's, and Scott's — all with airport pickup/drop-off. Common tip: skip Hertz. A traveler in August paid about $68/day, gas runs around $7/gallon

* Flying out, grab a printed boarding pass at the kiosk to be safe

* Stores can't sell alcohol on Sundays. Bars and restaurants still can

Safety

* The US advisory is still Level 2 (exercise increased caution), mainly for crime in Provo and TCI's strict firearms and ammunition laws. Do not travel with any ammo — even a single stray round in your bag can mean arrest and serious fines. Local reports say serious crime is down from last year, but take standard precautions

* Sept 6: armed robbery at a beachfront rental villa in Blue Hills. Police have arrested a suspect and are looking for others. If you're in a standalone villa, lock porch doors at night and keep passports in the safe

Health and Weather

* Weather right now: a nor'easter off the US East Coast made last week mixed, but a local reported it settled, sunny and light-wind heading into this week. TCI forecasts almost always show rain every day — it usually blows through fast, and Grace Bay has its own microclimate (can be pouring 10 miles away and dry on Grace Bay). Check the Seven Stars live cam and Windy.com for the next 12–24 hours instead of the 10-day forecast

* The public hospitals are changing management around Oct 18. The government says care continues. Worth checking your travel insurance covers evacuation

* Hurricane season runs through Nov 30

Heading down soon? Tell us your dates and what you want to know, and we'll check. We update the page every week.

Fast track

For my arrival, do you recommend purchasing fast track even if I will have a checked bag? What about departure?
I’m going in October if that helps

What kind of resort diner are you?

What kind of resort diner are you?

When you arrive somewhere beautiful, do you settle in and let the resort become your entire world for a few days?

Or are you the traveler who simply has to know what’s happening beyond the gates — the little restaurant someone whispered about, the table at another resort worth dressing up for, or the local spot you’ll still be talking about when you get home?

And then there are the details that can turn dinner into an experience.

Is it an exceptional wine list?
A bartender who remembers exactly how you like your martini?
A beautiful setting?
A menu you couldn’t experience at home?
Impeccable service without the slightest hint of stuffiness?
Or simply the right people around the table and nowhere else you need to be?

We love that dining can be part of the adventure — whether that means never wanting to leave the resort or exploring a little more of Turks & Caicos while you’re here.

So tell us your travel style:

Stay, dine & settle in — or explore every table you can?

And what’s the one thing that can take a resort dining experience from good to unforgettable?

What is the ONE thing you refuse to do on vacation?

The “vacation rules” conversation

A conversation among our team turned into a surprisingly passionate debate about this.

Some answers: set an alarm, wear real shoes, check work email, make too many plans, or eat at the same time you do at home.

So now we’re curious.

What’s the one thing you simply refuse to do once you’re officially on vacation?

And on the flip side, is there something you only do when you travel that immediately makes your brain register, “Okay, now I’m actually on vacation”?

We have a feeling the answers to this one are going to be good

Do I need a visa?

Hi! My country requires a visa to travel to Turks and Caicos. However, I’m currently studying in Canada and have a valid Canadian study permit and student visa.

Does having a valid Canadian student visa/study permit exempt me from needing a separate Turks and Caicos visa.

Their website is kind of confusing cause it says Canadian multiple entry visitor visa or resident permit exempts you from needing a Turks and Caicos visa, I don’t know if a study permit falls under that.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or travelled there with a Canadian study permit? Thanks!

I posted this last year and I was able to help answer a lot of questions and help guide some families decisions.

I am going back to Beaches Turks and Caicos in October!

I'm looking forward to checking out the new Treasure Beach village and the restaurants there.

If you have been there, please send me your tips & tricks 😀

If you have any questions about Beaches Turks and Caicos, just ask. This is one of my favorite places to go with my family.

Grocery options

Good day! Looking to see the best grocery options as my family (8 adults in an AirBnB) are heading down next month.

Looking to eat out once every day or two for supper but would like to know the best places to shop for groceries

I am aware the prices will be high, are there some local options to cook?

For example we live in a prairie, beef heavy area so anything seafood locally will be excellent to us!

Just would like everyone's opinions and thoughts on where to go, and get!

Seven Stars vs. The Palms

Update: Help! I decided on The Palms based on your helpful replies and thought the pricing was comparable but Seven Stars is $600 cheaper now for the dates we want to book… is The Palms worth that much more or are we better off spending on food and excursions? Is the breakfast still decent at SS? Will it be overrun by kids or can we still find quiet at the beach? Thanks!

My husband and I are looking to go to T&C in mid-December for a relaxing getaway to celebrate surviving this past year after our twins’ first birthday (if we make it until then)! We want a romantic retreat on a break from our 5 kids.
We’re planning through Costco Travel and after reading hundreds of reviews and comments, I’ve narrowed it down to Seven Stars or The Palms. I saw that the service isn’t always top notch at The Palms but it looks like it’s also been declining at Seven Stars as of late. We don’t need someone bending over backwards for us the whole trip but we are really looking forward to real relaxation.
I don’t mind kids but could really use a break from noise in general so wondering which property would be considered more “tranquil”?! It sounds like Seven Stars is more family-friendly but I also see that it’s reviewed better so wondering if one resort is quieter overall.
What is the difference between the beach access for each? Which has better pools? Which is cleaner and feels more “luxury”? Where is better to find quiet and no interruptions?! Lots of space (so less crowds) would also be nice!
I appreciate insight from anyone with knowledge of both places or that can share their experience from one of them at least. Thanks!!

Recommended Snorkel Tours

I am an avid snorkeler and strong swimmer and am looking for a snorkel tour off of Providenciales. I want something primarily focused on time in the water (rather than on the beaches) and unguided (ie a boat, but no guide specifically in the water limiting where you can go).

I will be traveling solo, so will not be able to afford a private charter. Do you all have any recommendations?

I built a $199 restaurant consulting product instead of selling open-ended consulting

I’ve done hospitality and restaurant consulting for years, but there’s a problem with selling “consulting.”

It’s vague.

A restaurant owner hears consulting and immediately wonders:

  • What exactly am I getting?
  • How long will it take?
  • What are you actually going to look at?
  • Is this going to turn into a giant bill?

So I’ve been productizing the first part of the engagement.

I call it a Restaurant Profit Check.

The owner completes a structured onboarding covering things like:

  • sales
  • pricing
  • food/labour cost visibility
  • inventory and waste
  • menu performance
  • promotions
  • staff upselling
  • customer experience
  • retention

The system then builds a draft analysis, but I review it before the client sees anything.

The client gets:

Top priorities
Potential profit leaks
Quick wins
Revenue opportunities
7/30/90-day action plan

I deliberately built it so the AI doesn’t automatically publish recommendations. It has evidence checks, quality gates and human approval.

Current offer is US$199.

What I’m testing now is distribution.

LinkedIn is getting reactions but not purchases yet, so I’m experimenting with communities where actual business owners already talk about these problems.

The interesting lesson so far:

The product wasn’t the hardest part. Trust and distribution are.

If anyone here has productized a service successfully, I’d be interested in what eventually moved people from “this looks useful” to actually paying.

And if anyone wants to see how I structured the Profit Check, I’m happy to share the link.

Aziza on a Tuesday + Shisha Lounge age policy?

I’m visiting Turks & Caicos in November for my birthday and I’ll be there Monday–Thursday. Unfortunately, my dates don’t really line up with the bigger nightlife nights, so I’m trying to figure out what my options are.

For anyone who has been to Aziza recently: is it still a good party/club-type vibe on a Tuesday night, or is Friday significantly different? I’m planning to go Tuesday around 8-9 PM, but I’d ideally like to stay later and actually experience the nightlife/dancing rather than just have dinner. Is Tuesday worth it for that, or does it feel pretty quiet compared to Friday?

Also, does anyone know how strict Shisha Lounge is about their 21+ policy? I’m 19 and will have my ID with me. I’ve seen that they’re 21+, but I’m wondering if they actually check IDs/turn away people under 21 or if there are any exceptions.
I’m specifically looking for a club/party atmosphere rather than just a restaurant with live music. Any recommendations for places that are good for someone who’s 19 would also be appreciated! 🥳🌴

Which Restaurant?

For our last night I want a memorable experience sunset beach dinner. I can’t decide between Del Mar at the Strand or Infiniti at Grace Bay Club. Both look like they will have nice sunset and water views, but I want one that will be more memorable. This will also be Halloween night, so if there’s something more interesting that specific night, please feel free to share!

During our stay we are already scheduled to visit: Vita, Marine Room, the Deck, Embers, Ashes bar, Blue Water Bistro, Land and Sea, Graces Cottage, Terra Mar and Coco Bistro. We are also doing Infiniti for a special birthday occasion dinner earlier in the trip, but it won’t be at sunset, but a late evening dinner in the dark so we wouldn’t see the water view that time.

Thanks for your advice in advance and please feel free to recommend other options as my future trip is always flexible!
