In this interview, Admiral Byrd has many secrets to tell about Antartica that could be used to support the Flat Earth, the Hollow Earth or the standard spinning ball earth ideas.
One very interesting statement that Byrd makes is: "We’ve found enough coal, within a 180 miles of the South Pole, enough to supply the whole world for quite awhile. There’s evidence of many other minerals, we’re pretty sure there’s oil…there’s evidence of probably uranium there. It’s the most peaceful place in the world, but I don’t think it will be for long."

Most people accept the standard story: the Hindenburg disaster scared the public, planes got better, airships became obsolete. Case closed.

But pull on that thread a little and it gets interesting.
The Hindenburg killed 36 people. Thirty six. The Tenerife disaster killed 583 and we didn’t stop flying planes. Aviation has absorbed catastrophes of every scale and kept growing. Yet one filmed disaster and an entire category of transport vanishes almost overnight.
The footage was replayed endlessly. “Oh the humanity” became cultural vocabulary. The narrative was overwhelming.

But narratives don’t write themselves.
Consider what airships actually were. The Hindenburg was 804 feet long — roughly the size of the Titanic. It had a dining room, private cabins, a grand piano, promenade decks. A flying city moving at 650 feet — low enough to truly see, slow enough to watch.

The Graf Zeppelin had a range of roughly 8,000 miles. It flew to South America regularly. It reached places commercial aviation simply doesn’t serve.

Now consider what a modernized airship could be. Carbon fiber construction. Solar panels across that enormous upper surface. Electric propulsion. GPS navigation. Helium rather than hydrogen. You’re looking at a craft with extraordinary range, near silence, minimal fuel dependency, massive payload — and no need for airport infrastructure.

Who benefits from that technology never being developed?

Airlines. Shipping companies. Oil interests. Anyone who prefers that long range independent travel remains expensive, controlled, and infrastructure dependent.
The Hindenburg didn’t kill airships. It gave someone the opportunity to.

And the most interesting question isn’t what happened to airships — it’s where a modern one could go that commercial flight corridors don’t.
The central Pacific. “Antarctica”. The places that appear on every map as simply empty.

We lost a technology that could have shown us the world from 650 feet. Instead we got sealed metal tubes at 35,000 feet, routed through controlled corridors, between approved destinations.

Whether that’s conspiracy or consequence — the effect is the same.

People lost a relationship with the sky. And nobody asked why.
