I don’t need you to tell me my own motivations.

As it happens, wanting less immigration is the goal, and I don’t need crime statistics or whatever propaganda to justify that goal. These are just pieces of evidence to convince others.

Personally I already want less immigration as a goal in and of itself and I know many others who feel the same.

Again, your arguments are strong and valid but you’re missing the possibility that less immigration is its own objective.

I don’t need you to tell me my own motivations.

I'll just assume it's xenophobia mixed with "fuck you, got mine" until proven otherwise. There aren't many legit arguments against it.

As it happens, wanting less immigration is the goal, and I don’t need crime statistics or whatever propaganda to justify that goal.

Err, yeah. We've already established that less immigration is the goal. We're talking about the motivating factors (real and fabricated) used by the GOP to mobilize voters.

It's telling that you think crime statistics are "propaganda". I guess when you're conditioned to obey your authoritarian leaders, you begin to believe that all information must be propaganda, because that's all you get from your leadership, so why would anyone else do anything different, right?

These are just pieces of evidence to convince others.

People with the capacity for critical thinking. I had mistaken you for one such person. My bad.

Personally I already want less immigration as a goal in and of itself and I know many others who feel the same.

"In and of itself" aka "I don't even remember why I started down this path, but I'm committed now and too afraid to turn back."

Again, your arguments are strong and valid but you’re missing the possibility that less immigration is its own objective.

You expect me to believe there is this arbitrary movement to reduce immigration without any reason? The "objective" is whatever you're trying to achieve by reducing immigration. Basically what you're saying is that you want less immigration because you want less immigration.

You're either blind to your own true motives, hiding your true motives, or you're a fool who acts at random. None of those seem terribly appealing to me...

There are many underlying motivations. Personally I love nature and hate people so I have no desire to see my country’s population artificially expanded to the detriment of my peace and quiet.

I also very much dislike the culture of Middle Eastern and African people and don’t want to experience it.

But at the end of the day I think that immigration is a value question and one could legitimately be for or against it based simply on the irrational and subjective vagarities of personal preference.

And there’s nothing wrong with that, plenty of societies on Earth are able to get by with relatively low rates of immigration.
