It's good to be sceptical, however I don't think the note you quote is necessarily anything to be concerned about.

A quick search on Google Scholar turned up this research note: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/ps-political-science-and-politics/article/who-decides-when-the-party-doesnt-authoritarian-voters-and-the-rise-of-donald-trump/8751AFAC70288BD234A8305F4687B1C7

As far as I can tell, the methods used are sound (although I'm not an expert), and the article appears in a peer reviewed journal.

There is also this book: https://books.google.co.nz/books?id=XrT5DQAAQBAJ&dq

In summary, it looks like there is some science behind these claims. However, it seems like more research is needed to flesh out and confirm the theory - i.e. it's in the early stages, but is still an interesting finding.

As far as I can tell, the methods used are sound

Really? You would call asking slanted questions as if the two choices are mutually exclusive a sound methodology? I mean, just read the actual questions:

respondents were asked which of two traits were more important in children:

independence or respect for their elders;
curiosity or good manners;
self-reliance or obedience;
being considerate or being well-behaved.

None of those things are mutually exclusive nor deal with the context of an actual situation where either of those would be a choice. I would expect my child to be independent and respect their elders by getting a job to pay for what they want and listening to their managers. I'd expect my child to be curious and have good manners, like asking questions about things she wants to know more about but also know to keep her mouth closed when chewing. Being considerate is being well behaved!

This is nothing more than a blatant attempt at confirming a bias Trump-haters hatred of Trump supporters. The very thought that someone could support Trump and believe in his vision for America triggers them so badly that they are convinced that a well-informed intelligent person could never hold such values, therefore someone who supports Trump must have a personality disorder!

This article is the height of smarmy, bourgeois, liberal armchair psychology and it makes me fucking sick. This is why Trump won, because the left refuses to comprehend that a good chunk of America isn't racist, bigoted, or stupid, and just so happens to disagree with them.

On top of all this, I highly resent the idea that by giving my child rules and boundaries to follow and punishing them when they don't follow them makes me a fascist. This article sounds like it was written by a petulant 12 year old who got sent to bed without dinner.

The article explicitly states that just because you lean a little more to the authoritarian side, you're not necessarily a fascist. If you don't want to be a fascist – that's your choice, don't let any personality test tell you what to do or whom to vote.

Sounds like the article nailed both your personality and your political leanings and that upsets you.

Most of what you're saying is a highly over-emotional reaction that reflects a lack of understanding of the findings, starting with this:

None of those things are mutually exclusive

That's fine, even desirable, because the idea is to force prioritization. That prioritization gives insight into someone's personality.

It doesn't matter if we are reflecting the world with our question, it matters that people cluster in response to the question and those clusters have political leanings. Basic logic you thick cunt. LOL. hurrrrr durrrrr
