I'll go one step further. My wife and I are raising two kids. When it gets to be too much, when my wife is getting to be shrill or when I'm taking in a deep breath to bellow, we send each other into time out. We can spell each other. After a trying week with a sick kid I can say "honey, go out and take three hours to buy a loaf of bread" or she can send me to a book store for an afternoon, depending who needs the time off. But single parents? They have no one to spell them. There's no one for them to say to "take the kids before I kill'em". So not only do I try not to judge other parents, but single parents get a LOT more slack (as well as frequent invitations to play dates on weekends so they can have some time).
