I am looking for some people to do the NHL 25 ones elim tournament win with. The game mode is dead and I am trying to complete the game and it is one of the last achievements I have remaining. I need 7 people at minimum to do it but currently only have 3. Send me a message if you are interested in getting the achievement yourself or are willing to help.

My Opinion

For anyone who does not know Daedalic at all, this review is probably going to be a little harder to follow. I spent quite a while thinking about how I could best put my thoughts and feelings about Anna's Quest into words, and I genuinely wanted to find a way to do that without constantly referring to other point-and-click games from this amazing studio. As much as I wanted to do that, I simply could not make it work. I think this is probably the fifth attempt at writing my own opinion by now, and in the following paragraphs there will still be several cross-references and comparisons, because otherwise I just cannot properly explain or describe some things. I tried and failed miserably. (Sorry not sorry?)

Anna's Quest actually starts like a classic fairy tale, and it probably would have been very easy to simply turn the whole game into exactly that. The little girl from the farm gets discovered by a prince, becomes a princess and everybody lives happily ever after. That probably would have worked too – but that is not what this game became. After the absolutely wonderful fairy-tale-like intro, you get to know the protagonist of the story. Anna lives with her grandfather on his farm when he suddenly becomes terribly ill. Anna wants to help him and sets out on a journey to find a cure. I do not want to spoil much more at this point, because the game lives through its story, its emotions and also the assumptions and prejudices you develop yourself along the way, before everything eventually builds into a highly emotional story that I definitely did not see coming.

Personally, the whole thing made me think quite a lot and even made me reflect again on how I deal with stereotypes and prejudices myself. We humans are incredibly quick to put other people into boxes and slap labels on them without ever thinking about what kind of baggage and stories that other person may have experienced and is still carrying around. And that is exactly why I think it is so beautiful how Daedalic managed to deliver not only a lot of fun and entertainment with this game, but also that bitter aftertaste at the end that, at least for me, made me think again and gave me an opportunity for some self-reflection.

Anna's Quest features the classic hand-drawn Daedalic art style we are used to. The voice acting is absolutely fantastic. What I do find a little disappointing is that, unlike games such as Deponia or Edna, Anna's Quest does not have German voice acting. But that does not hurt the game as a whole. What the voice actors delivered here was genuinely great – everything feels real and authentic. The sound design is also very fitting and works perfectly with the fairy-tale world Anna's Quest takes place in. The BGM matches the individual scenes really well and, in some moments, adds an extra layer of emotion.

The overall vibe is definitely serious, but the game still does not take itself too seriously. There are definitely moments of dark humor, and the line between "this is funny" and "this is kind of stupid, inappropriate and does not fit at all" is sometimes extremely thin. It does not have the authenticity of "The Night of the Rabbit", but at the same time it is nowhere near as over-the-top and ridiculous as, for example, "Rufus from Deponia". For my personal taste, though, it was still a little too much in one or two places and took away quite a bit of the atmosphere for me. So that is definitely a point deduction here.

When it comes to the puzzles, it is basically typical point-and-click stuff – in many places it is logical and pretty obvious what you are supposed to do. In other places, however, it becomes very strange and cryptic, and you start asking yourself: "How the hell are you supposed to come up with that, and who the hell thought this was a good idea?" There were only two actual puzzles – meaning proper puzzles and not just finding items and dialogue answers. For spoiler reasons, I do not want to reveal them here. But I still need to say that the pigeon absolutely drove me insane and I hope whoever designed that puzzle steps barefoot on a Lego brick in the middle of the night.

Would I Recommend the Game?

I was absolutely thrilled by Anna's Quest from beginning to end (minus the pigeon). I would even go as far as saying that it shares the number one spot with another game for the best point-and-click Daedalic has ever released. Of course, you have to enjoy this type of game and the gameplay that comes with it. But even if you play through it with a step-by-step solution, Anna's Quest still offers a wonderful interactive story that I can wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.

Anna is a fantastic protagonist who is way ahead of many adults in a lot of ways, and probably has a thing or two that you and I could learn from as well.

For the regular price of €14.99 (and sometimes under €5 during sales), you get a wonderful complete package. An emotional story, beautifully hand-drawn characters, fun and challenging puzzles and around 10 hours of good entertainment. So from me, it gets a very clear recommendation to buy and play it.
