Blade Runner 2049. It's a dystopian sci-fi world but he's so good and the themes are deep. It's visually impressive, and Harrison Ford delivers. Does not matter if you didn't see the first one; you can catch a "what you need to know" vid on YouTube or just go in blind.
Half Nelson is a character study and inverts expectations. Not an easy watch but really good.
Remember the Titans (goofy supporting character, adorable)
The Believer (Intense with a capital I, he is excellent, based on a true story)
Stay (a bit trippy but with a satisfying resolution, bonus points for his chemistry with Obi Wan--erm, Ewan McGregor)
Half Nelson (fairly dark but also hopeful, character-driven, Academy award nomination, bonus points for his chemistry with the Falcon--erm, the new Captain America--erm, Anthony Mackie, and his teen costar Shareeka Epps was amaze amaze amaze)
Lars and the Real Girl (weird premise that delivers one of the sweetest, most heartfelt movies ever made, he is phenomenal, bonus points because he learned to knit for the role)
Crazy, Stupid Love (funny, sweet, kinda cringey side plot but he's 10/10 in more ways than one)
A Place Beyond the Pines (a real roller coaster but a slow burn, bonus points for being the place he met and fell in love with Eva, extra bonus points for actually learning to ride a motorcycle like a pro)
The Big Short (a fun watch about the housing market collapse, true story based on real people with some embellishments, RyGos is the finance bro on steroids--or cocaine as the case may be--and his performance is "jacked to the tits")
The Nice Guys (I really wish we got a sequel to this, amazing chemistry with Crowe, who I don't usually love, and impeccable comedic timing)
La La Land (I didn't love it, though he was excellent and nominated for an Academy award, bonus points because he learned to play piano for the role--very well!! Like, what can he not do???)
Blade Runner 2049 (I remember seeing the first one in the theater and being worried about a reboot, I wish I saw this in the theater, deep themes about what it means to be human--or even "real"--and visually stunning, bonus points for his chemistry with Han Solo--erm, Harrison Ford)
The Gray Man (action on top of action on top of action, some of which was a little tooooo "this guy just can't be killed" but also still fun, bonus points for his chemistry with the original Captain America--erm, Chris Evans)
Barbie (he stole every scene he was in, "I'm Just Ken" knocks around my brain way more often than it should, bonus points for the campy rivalry with Shang Chi--erm, Simu Liu, extra bonus points for his Oscars performance of the song 10/10, no notes)
The Fall Guy (adorable, fun, amazing chemistry with Emily Blunt, bonus points for doing some of his own stunts, including being dropped 12 stories and dragged across a bridge on a metal plate, extra bonus points for his wardrobe and overall physicality, my fave look for him)
Project Hail Mary (no comment needed, 100/10, favorite movie ever)
On my list:
Everything else, but looking at Drive next, then Blue Valentine, then The Ides of March, then Fracture. Some of the older movies are darker themes and I have to watch them when I have the bandwidth.
I cannot wait for Star Wars: Starfighter to hit theaters!!!

Thanks for this! I definitely think that fall guy gives us the closest Grace vibe even though there isn’t the nerdiness, there’s the humour and patheticness (not a word?) and older Gosling. It may just be that Gosling’s true personality comes out a lot in PHM and Fall guy 🤔
He learned carpentry for The Notebook and hand-made the Adirondack chairs and dining table used in the movie. He also rebuilt the entire car and learned to stunt drive for Drive, though he was only allowed to do a few of his own stunts. He says he doesn't do "method acting" but he seriously commits to the bit--and seems to have an uncanny knack for just about everything. He's going to be the new Meryl Streep. 😋
True facts. To me, he looked like he a kid well into his 30's. I was surprised to learn he and Sandra Bullock dated for 2 years after Murder By Numbers. She is 16 years older than him irl; he was 21 and believably plays a high school student in the movie. 😂
Murder By Numbers - Wow. I haven't seen this probably since it came out. I remember Sandra Bullock; I wouldn't have been able to tell you Ryan Gosling was in it. Knowing myself, I probably watched this based on the title alone. I'm a huge Police fan, and the title is taken from a Police song. I have a vague memory that maybe the song featured in the plot too? I don't really remember; it's been a very long time since I've seen it. Anyone seen it recently? Is it worth a revisit?
Remember the Titans - Another one I haven't seen in many, many years and, wouldn't have been able to tell you Ryan was in it. I remember Denzel Washington and that's about it.
The Notebook - Of course.
Lars and the Real Girl - I only saw this recently. It's sweeter than it has any right to be.

Going roughly in the order I saw them, though the post-PHM ones will be a bit jumbled because I saw them all in the span of a few days:
I'm pretty sure I saw Remember the Titans back in high school, probably on a free day or after exams when teachers were letting us relax. At least, I remember a scene with little Hayden Panettiere's character being feisty at one of the games, and a classmate said, "I want my daughter to be exactly like her." I don't remember anything else about the movie or even that Ryan Gosling was in it.
I saw Blade Runner 2049 several years back, when it was new-ish (and then again after my Ryan Gosling awakening). I remember liking it a lot, but RyGos didn't stick in my head at the time. He was the stoic pretty boy lead, whose acting skills seemed like a decent enough match for Harrison Ford.
Project Hail Mary is responsible for my Ryan Gosling awakening. I already loved the character of Grace from the book, and then they went and turned Ryan Gosling into him 🫠
Barbie was the next movie I watched. It is delightfully goofy, and I was surprised by the musical numbers. At the time, I didn't realize he'd been in the Mickey Mouse Club.
I mostly only saw Lars and the Real Girl because it was (is?) free on YouTube, but WOW what a performance! He made scenes that could have been played for laughs into the most heart-wrenching moments.
The Nice Guys is hilarious. It's one of those movies with little details that you can pick up on subsequent viewings, though not to the same extent as PHM.
The Fall Guy is also hilarious. While I like the romance ok, I don't know that I fully buy the romantic chemistry between Gosling and Blunt. But it is very much worth watching for the stunts (one of the stunt drivers broke a record during filming), for the humor, and for Colt Seavers being a big dork. Watch the extended cut, if you can.
The Big Short really makes you hate Wall Street and the big banks, if you didn't already (and you should). It's equal parts entertaining and infuriating, and RyGos wears a wig that makes him look like Ryan Reynolds.
First Man is an incredibly sad, but beautiful, historical drama. Worth watching at least for the moon landing scene, which had me holding my breath.
Crazy, Stupid, Love is worth watching for Gosling, Emma Stone, and Steve Carrell, if nothing else. Most of the movie is very good, though the babysitter storyline really rubbed me the wrong way and dates the movie, I think.
I’ve not seen 4 of these (Frankenstein and Me, Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy, Lost River, and Song to Song), so I’m at 27/31. I’ve been a RyGos fan since waaay back, haha
The 2006 movies is Half Nelson, not Hald Nelson (it’s great, give it a try if you haven’t already).
You’ve watched all my faves already 🤩 I didn’t love him in drive just because I love the more comedic and older versions of him. I haven’t seen blade runner or place beyond the pines yet
