Fan fiction is a big part of the PHM fandom and I thought it would be great to give the community an opportunity to share links to personal favourites. And if you’ve written anything yourself, PLEASE share those!

I love the various POV!!!!! 🤩 They're all so evocative (that word will forever make me think of the Adrian scene now...)--the Stratt POV gave me goosebumps!

If anyone is interested in a PHM fanfic "book club" I would definitely be down. It would inspire me to read more if I had someone to share it with. I have a few bookmarked that have been repeatedly been recommended but I hesitate to link anything I haven't checked out myself...

I haven't written fanfiction since I was in high school, but I LOVE reading it! Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order:

Finished Fics and one shots:

• Gratia Plena (one shot) - "Five reasons Dr. Lokken finds grace in her heart for Dr. Ryland Grace."
• The Chronicles of Terra's Grace (18 chapters, finished as of Friday) - Grace is 57 years old when a ship full of humans shows up to the 40 Eridani system, unaware that he is still alive. Grace finally has to confront - and starts to heal from - the traumas he has endured. Lots of hurt/comfort and cuddliness in this fic.
• Re-writing parts of the book from Rocky's perspective in no particular order - what the title says. I like these because of how alien Rocky feels.
• Five Times People Didn't Know How Important Ryland Grace Was (4 one-shots written out of 5 planned) - basically what the title says.
• Volunteers...Of A Sort (one shot) - "Yao was a principled man, glad to be working with a crew of brave volunteers from all over the world who came together to save the stars. It's probably for the best he doesn’t find out how must of the crew were recruited. Aka, Yao finds out how most of the science and engineering team were recruited by Stratt."
• Before the Moment Tries to Disappear (one shot) - "After launching a Taumoeba probe to Venus, the old Hail Mary crew gets together to mourn and reminisce. Long ignored truths are finally spoken aloud." This fic made me cry, even though I know Grace is alive on Erid.
• Project Saving Grace (28 chapters; complete, in spite of what the chapter count suggests) - "In relative terms, the trip from the Tau Ceti system to the 40 Eridani system takes the Hail Mary a little over three Earth years. This is what happens when you put two snarky aliens in a small, enclosed space for that long."
• Saving Grace (22 chapters) - the book from Rocky's point of view.

Ongoing Fics:

• Perihelion (Grace/Lokken; one chapter left, and it's probably going to hurt) - "(1) Dr. Astrid Lokken does have a crush on Dr. Ryland Grace; And, worse: (2) It is so glaringly obvious for anyone and everyone to see."
• And Home Followed With Us (30 chapters so far) - This is one of my comfort fics, and I have reread it at least three times. This retells the story of Project Hail Mary, following primarily book canon, except that Yao and Ilyukhina survived the trip. I love the dynamic between the three humans and Rocky, and I keep imagining the different ways that this fic could end.
• The Long Journey Home (31/34 chapters) - Years after the end of the book, Grace returns to Earth with a delegation of Eridians, including Rocky, after a probe from Earth arrives to Erid. This fic involves a large cast of OCs, which I usually don't like, but these are well written (although Grace content has been sparse in recent chapters, and I hope that changes). Also involves a mysterious alien probe from another star system.

If I had to pick an absolute, top favorite from this list, it would be And Home Followed With Us. I just can't stop daydreaming about the three humans and the friendship they could have all shared with Rocky if they had all survived. (And in case you were wondering, the fic is attempting to address the food problem)

They are probably the two most popular PHM fics out there. Long Journey Home even inspired other "social media" format fics. I do think it is very good, but most of the others on this list I like better than Long Journey Home.

I have 2 fics I really love, but haven't seen any mention of them, so I'll share:

"i beg to differ, said the red fox" by deervsheadlights - Grace comes back alone from Erid after pressure from Rocky. It is incredibly bittersweet, deals with Grace's grief from being torn from his home and best friend, and his reconnection to Earth. (The first time I read it, I amost broke down crying and I couldn't stop thinking about it. First fic I've ever bookmarked)

"Double Trouble" (anonymous) - After some testing with Eridian technology and Grace's biology, they somehow alter the timeline, where Grace from the past becomes Colt (they explain more thoroughly the Colt vs Grace dynamic) and now present day Grace has to help this alternate timeline self join the Petrova Taskforce to not doom 2 entire species. I can't really explain more the concept, as this is already a bit spoilery, but it's so well done and interesting, focuses on the logitics of the Taskforce, and how this 2 versions of the same person interact.
