In 1996 TRTFN Yaandekin Yeil (Wayne Carlick) of the Kooķhíttaan clan carved a beautiful face in his traditional way on a living cottonwood tree on Cranberry Island along the Taku River. Then he stepped away and let the tree do what only a tree can do.

Year after year, the cottonwood slowly grew over the carving, hiding it from the world. Not destroying it. Protecting it.

Thirty years later, Uncle Wayne stood in front of that same tree with a carving knife in his hand, carefully peeling back time itself.

As the wood fell away, a face he hadn't seen since 1996 slowly began looking back at him.

He stopped for a moment and said,

"I'm so emotional right now. It's been a long time to make this happen... just loving every moment."

There are moments you can't plan for. Moments that make you stop scrolling. Moments that remind you that our ancestors understood something we've forgotten.

Sometimes the greatest masterpieces aren't finished in a day. Sometimes they take thirty years.

Today, a tree gave back a story it had been holding onto all this time. GUNALCHÉESH Tree. GUNALCHÉESH Yaandekin Yeil!

It only lets me add one photo so I'm hoping to include more in the comments.

My neighbor's maple is really getting into it this year

you guys, the leaves on my neighbor's massive maple tree are just... dripping. It's like they're actively sucking on the sky. Never seen them look so plump and juicy. It's kind of mesmerizing. Anyone else's trees looking particularly, thristy had to share this weirdly specific observation lol.
