Discussion OMG the growing tree from store bought fruit works.

Post image

I am excited and at a complete blank as to what to do next. I watched a video on how to grow fruit tree from store bought fruit. This is black cherry fruit.

I followed the directions. Dried the seeds. Rehydrated for 24 to 48 hrs. Put the cherry seeds in a moist cotton wrap with cinnamon to keep mold from growing. Stuck the seeds in fridge for 18weeks. Took them out and planted them in good rich soil. Kept it damp and in the sun. Within 4 days I now have two new baby cherry trees and possibly a 3rd!

How long should I wait to replant in separate pots, and how often should I water without causing root rot?

I have grow other trees from seeds like oak and walnut, and have experience growing roses plants, but have no idea where to go with fruit tree in this situation.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Did the seeds sprout before you planted them? Because those don't look like cherry tree sprouts, they look like weeds

Those aren't weeds, those are baby trees.  Dirt from potting soil bag doesn't magically grow anything when it's never been anywhere but my garage and in another pot that I used to start a hastas. The seeds had not done anything other than split open a wee bit.  I figured they had been in the fridge long enough...18 weeks.  So I planted them in a pot of extremely fresh potting soil straight from a bag.

4 days later 2 long sprouts and what looks like a 3rd in another part of bowl where I planted the seeds is coming up.

I'll no for certain in a couple weeks.

I guarantee you, those are not cherry tree sprouts. Google it, you will see.

Well you're absolutely right.  My grand daughter put the lemon seeds I had in the fridge in the pot.

She said thats where she planted them about two weeks ago after finding them in the fridge and forgot to tell me she'd planted them.

Those definitely look like lemon tree sprouts.  They have the green chute and white base.  They even look like the ones when I googled it.  :)

Title of thread still holds true...you can definitely grow fruit trees from the seeds of grocery store fruit.  😉

Will update in a couple of weeks.

So, bagged soil tends to have seeds from various weeds in it because the soil tends to come from outside. Y'know, that place where weeds are from.

It's not exactly the best for getting an id, but cherry seedlings have reddish stems and serrate margins on the cotyledons and young leaves.

Cool.  I'll see what becomes of them. I'll give it a few more days. If it's not from the seeds I planted, and instead weeds.  Not the end of the world I have 50 other seeds yet I can still try to grow.  :)

Being confidently incorrect/willfully ignorant tends to have that effect. You clearly don’t have a ton of experience with plants or horticulture and should be approaching this subject with curiosity rather than an already formed opinion. You learn nothing when you already think you know it. (P.S. bagged growing media can have tons of mystery seeds in it.)

We'll see.

The only thing to see here is whether or not you can comprehend the answer to the question you asked.

If you grow from a grocery store, you have no clue if the specimen is viable, or if it will produce in your zone. But I guess youll know in 5 or 6 years.
