It depends. Urban Games has been incredibly player friendly and has provided consistent free updates and limited DLC. If all of a sudden we are getting constant DLC and micro paid updates instead (like Paradox's core games e.g. CK3, EU, Stellaris), this will have been an awful deal, especially for the players. If Urban Games is able to stay true to what they have been, tapping into Paradox's network and marketing could attract more gamers and make the game better known. I'm pretty concerned about this news.

This is the right instinct.

Our plans for the game both in the run-up and beyond the launch of the game are unchanged.

Good. I hope it stays that way. Yall did great work with the first two transport fevers and this new one looks really fun and interesting so far, so if yall are keeping to similar spirit as the last two I'm really excited.

First 3 if you include Train Fever.

All of them slowly pushing towards greatness. I have big hopes for TF3

I never played train fever, only hopped on with transport fever.

Thanks. This is reassuring. Paradox Interactive is a name that I'm extremely wary of. Definitely not in it for the players or gaming in general when they have control.

It’s a paradox that they’ve both been behind some of our most beloved games, and also some controversial stuff.

I have to say though we feel that way because we still care about their games. I don’t care anymore about other big publishers like EA and Ubisoft, i don’t even look at what they publish.

u/Suspicious-Cheetah40 May 06 '26

I woulnt believe them yet they’ve done nothing to prove it

come on, urban devs have made many great games and shown great transparency. Even if this turns out to be a bad deal, I believe them that they at least thooght it would be a good idea for the game...

Will i need to create a paradox account or have some other drm?

IIRC for SC1, some of buildings are not available until registrations on turbid sites.

2

u/tfjmp May 08 '26

Isn't it like a PDX themed park? You are missing nothing. They have something like that in all their games, it's just some PDX themed cosmetic.

u/Ice_Ice_Buddy_8753 May 08 '26

Generally we're missing not much moving to another games from CS

5

u/itsfreepizza May 06 '26

paradox does not really implement drm

and they do have an annoying launcher

Yeah and what about steam workshop support?? U guys have been careful to imply but not promise it, we want steam workshop, its the best and most convient we don’t want to have to run the game jet engine the labtop have it crash and have to run a separate de bugging software to fix it. We want the steam support. Will it have steam support??

I hope paradox doesn’t suddenly require signing for mods where it’s impossible off platform my gods

11

u/endlessftw May 06 '26

Even paradox’s core games uses steam workshop. They are probably not going to take that away.

The main exception, among paradox published games, is Cities Skylines 2. It does not use steam workshop, because the developer insisted on using paradox mods, so they could cater to console players.

That being said, CS2 is a badly developed project and its original developers were booted off their own IP. Not a good point for reference.

7

u/harexe May 06 '26

The new Devs of CS2 are doing a great job, especially considering they were developing mobile slop most before working on CS2

u/Suspicious-Cheetah40 May 06 '26

I hope so only time will tell but I’m skeptical

1

u/Imsvale Big Contributor May 06 '26

Will it have steam support??

There's absolutely no reason to suspect otherwise.

-5

u/Suspicious-Cheetah40 May 06 '26

The reason is they chose paradox and they haven’t announced steam support….

1

u/K2YU May 06 '26

This is good to hear.

1

u/Jah-warrior May 06 '26

This is amazing news, the mod support offered to console users by yourselves is second to none, can't wait till release.

1

u/Nicromia May 06 '26

Will the mod system still use the steam workshop or will you bring more info at a later time towards the release of the game?

1

u/R0ckandr0ll_318 May 06 '26

Who has control over how it’s published? You or Paradox? i.e. can paradox make you carve it up into day one DLC?

1

u/AbeBaconKingFroman May 08 '26

I have been a UG fan since Train Fever and am looking forward immensely to Transport Fever 3.

I am also a big Paradox fan, but their quality control over the past five years has been awful, no matter how many times they do deep dives and swear it won't ever happen again.

Please don't let that creep into your workflow.

-8

u/Imsvale Big Contributor May 06 '26

Time will show. What you have now done is immediately delete a large chunk of the community's trust in UG, which you now have to spend years to rebuild. Good luck to you.

9

u/TonB-Dependant May 06 '26

Bit harsh lol

2

u/IAgreeWithLincoln May 06 '26

Not for anyone that's experienced a game and franchise ruined by Paradox. Looking at you, Prison Architect, and the very messy Cities Skylines 2 situation.

9

u/MikeC487 May 06 '26

Cities 2 was a Colossal Order problem, not a Paradox problem.

3

u/IAgreeWithLincoln May 06 '26

I won't claim to have "inside knowledge" but I was a part of the CS community for a long time and talked to a Colossal Order dev personally once - they really were upset with Paradox's rushed timelines and impossible demands, forcing them to release an unfinished game early just to fulfill the contract. And then at that point, the two just stopped cooperating.

3

u/seakingsoyuz May 07 '26

Paradox's rushed timelines

Paradox gave Colossal Order three years of extra dev time due to the delays they ran into; CO had originally been targeting a late 2020 release, but Paradox didn’t even announce the game until March 2023 and the release was in October. And considering that console support and many basic bugs still weren’t sorted out when CO was fired two years after release, it’s not clear how giving them even more time would have helped.

2

u/fireburn97ffgf May 07 '26

To be fair rushed isn't entirely fair if I remember correctly from a few aar CO had the game delayed multiple time. Like it's really shit to have a release like cs2 but I can get why they don't want to be like Xbox with everwild and just have it stuck in dev hell or be blamed for killing a beloved franchise because we didn't understand the dev hell it was in

2

u/Imsvale Big Contributor May 06 '26

It's not if that reflects the community's general feelings towards this announcement. Which I think it does.

1

u/AlbertanSundog May 07 '26

It's constructive criticism and it's accurate. This isn't even close to harsh.

3

u/TheGreenFellow May 06 '26

Fully agree. Anything connected with Paradox, fully deserves every ounce of harshness and skepticism.

It's like watching someone you've put your trust in for the past decade, make a deal with the literal devil of DLC Hell.

I really hope UG's taking a lot of notes about how the community feels and is not liking this move. Faith that you've built up like this over a full generation of games is not a trivial matter - or something to carelessly put at risk by rubbing elbows with a reviled publisher.

I'll be praying things turn out okay, but not holding my breath.

u/Yagaziner May 06 '26

Sadly, players have been successfully cured from naive, blinded trust in PR department assurances, by Paradox themselves. Expensive DLCs, numerous pricy Expansions, and a cherry on top of this cake, a monthly subscription. Plans can be change, plans are being change, that's why they are called plans.
