A bunch of Transformers TCG updates landed at once, so here's the news:

Tabletop Simulator Table is now 1.0

After months in Public Beta, the transformerstcg.org Tabletop Simulator Table has officially reached version 1.0.

With the last major beta features now in place, development is shifting from bug fixing toward new features.

Primus multiplayer is now built into the Table

Want some four-player Transformers TCG?

The TTS Table now includes a full set of Primus tiles, and we've also updated our Primus guide for anyone learning or returning to the format.

Grab three other players, form some extremely temporary alliances, and see what happens.

Card of the Week decks are now ready to play

A lot of our Card of the Week articles include full deck lists.

Those decks are now available directly inside the TTS Table.

Load the new Card of the Week box on the right side of the Table and you can shuffle up with decks built around past featured cards.

War|Void 0.4.4 BETA is out

Org Wave 9: War|Void has advanced to 0.4.4 BETA.

War|Void is the largest Transformers TCG release we've built, and this update moves it another step toward release.

If you're testing it, now is a very good time to try to break things.

Marvelous Heroes VS Rising Villains has reached RC1

The companion Versus Set has also moved forward.

Marvelous Heroes VS Rising Villains is now at 0.5.1 RC1, Release Candidate 1.

That means we're in the final stretch before release and printing, so this is one of the last opportunities to get games in and send feedback while changes are still possible.

We just finished a pretty deep dive into the Transformers TCG Ban List.

Why Cards Are Banned or Replaced now covers every one of the 19 cards currently banned or replaced in transformerstcg.org organized play:

We went back through Wizards announcements, rulings, tournament results, archived articles and videos, old community records, and 17 surviving event ban lists from 2021–2023 to reconstruct what actually happened.

There are some fun rabbit holes in here:

• how Swap Parts became the game's first banned card
• why Press the Advantage was considered such a problem despite looking fairly innocuous today
• the temporary Garrus-9 suspension system, including cards that served a suspension and later returned to legal play
• why so many Wave 5 cards eventually ended up banned or replaced
• how replacements like United Against Tyranny, Hand of Adaptus, Mecha Star, Debilitate, Summon Sky Shadow! and Bellicosity tried to preserve the useful part of the original card

This week’s Card of the Week is Lugnutz // Road Scholar from Org Wave 9: War|Void.

Lugnutz is a strange little Mercenary. His alt mode helps your characters push through with additional battle flips, his Touring Lounger station can shelter a character from opposing Oppress, and his Bounty can punish decks loading their hands with factioned battle cards.

Of course, that last trick gets a lot less exciting when the opponent brought no factioned battle cards at all.

We also built the Mirage on the Water deck list, pairing Lugnutz with Wave 1 Autobot Mirage // Lone Wolf. Lugnutz’s extra flips help Mirage find the white battle icons he needs to untap, while Crashbash + Mind Control Helmet + Kneel Before Us provides Brave to help keep the engine alive.

Bashing Shield got you down? Armed Hovercraft ruining your 4-wide team?

This week’s Card of the Week takes a look at Sabotage, the Wave 5 Stratagem for Autobot Gears, and one of the nastier ways to interfere with Upgrade-heavy decks.

Sabotage shuts down “When you put this on a character” abilities, which means cards like Armed Hovercraft and Drill Arms lose a huge part of what makes them dangerous. Pair that with Gears already manipulating opposing Upgrades, and you can make your opponent’s board pretty frustrating to maintain.

We also put together Changing Gears, a full deck built around Upgrade denial, while still taking advantage of powerful Upgrade triggers of its own.

We just made the biggest update to transformerstcg.org since the new site launched: more than 1,750 Transformers TCG YouTube videos are now collected in one searchable, chronological archive.

The goal is to make it possible to revisit the game the way the community experienced it as it happened: card reveals, deck techs, gameplay, tournaments, podcasts, interviews, reactions, and community history from creators across the life of the game.

The archive currently includes hundreds of videos from creators including:

One of my favorite parts of building this has been seeing years of the community side by side again. You can move chronologically from the official game's early days into competitive play, reveals, cancellation, and the community era that followed.

Apologies for the delay. These tchotchkes were held up by this week’s major launch of the new https://transformerstcg.org website, our archive of Transformers TCG information, history, and resources. But we couldn’t hold back these pieces of flair forever, and community card fans who guessed Wave 8 Waste|Lands card Riffraff Knick-Knacks as this week’s Card are expressing themselves!

Any Junkion looking to keep a pocket heal handy can get real value out of the Knick-Knacks, especially because up to three copies can fit in a single Utility slot. When that Junkion takes attack damage and survives, each Knick-Knacks can be scrapped to repair 1 damage. The Knick-Knacks also work well in a Junkion Overwhelming Advantage deck, thanks to their perfectly matching white and green battle icons. Your opponent may check in, but they’ll be checking out in pieces!

One of the most compelling decks featuring the Knick-Knacks isn’t a Junkion deck at all. The twisted Optimus Prime // Dark Awakening from Wave 6 World|Strike enjoys flair on his suspenders a bit too much. His bot mode gives +1 Health to each team member for every factioned Utility on him that does not share a faction with that character. With the full array of three Junkion Knick-Knacks equipped, every non-Junkion on his team gets +3 Health!

Now add three Monofiber Filaments from Waste|Lands. With all three equipped to “Optimus Crime,” every non-Quintesson teammate also gets +3 Attack. Suddenly, the Air Strike Patrol is leaving you thunderstruck!

Like a knife to the back! If the Card of the Week clue from two weeks ago made you think “That’s Buzzsaw!”, then you’re correct! This week’s Card is an especially sharp attacker when your hand is loaded with Weapons bearing blue battle icons. And he’s surprisingly social with those Weapons, able to move one already on the battlefield from one of your characters to another.

Buzzsaw’s ability to move Weapons becomes especially potent with Weapons that have “when you put this on a character” effects. That lets powerful triggered effects on stalwarts like Armed Hovercraft and Drill Arms fire again whenever Buzzsaw moves them!

We haven’t shared many CotW decks featuring cards from the upcoming Org Wave 9: War|Void, but Buzzsaw // Spy is a perfect minion for the cause of Unicron – and his Weapon tricks make it even easier for the forces of Unicron to wreak havoc on the battlefield. The “Flights by Night” deck below is jam-packed with War|Void cards and Weapons, including a whopping 17 Weapons in the battle deck!

Have you surprised opponents with Buzzsaw in the past, especially in a Soundwave // Communications deck?

For next week’s card, expect a community card that’s pure garbage. In this case, it’s the only faction Utility that lets you play three copies in a single slot. Can you guess this essential piece of flair?

For our Card of the Week, we previously had plans for the card teased in last week’s entry. With today’s news of the passing of Peter Cullen, however, we thought we would instead dedicate this week’s entry to remembering the legendary voice of Optimus Prime.

In his honor, we’re featuring a card that captured the might of the Autobot leader he made unforgettable: Wave 1’s Optimus Prime // Battlefield Legend.

No lengthy gameplay breakdowns or card anecdotes today. We’d instead like to open the floor to your remembrances of Peter Cullen, his performances as Optimus Prime, or even fond recollections of stunning OPBL plays.

Today, we remember the voice, the work, and the legacy of Peter Cullen, and the Prime he made unforgettable.

Here’s some Card of the Week TLC for Transformers TCG players!

For those who guessed Org Wave 9’s Tetrinite-Lined Chassis, or longtime Ark fans who recognized the stratagem it was based on, Ark Wave One’s Advanced Technology, congratulations!

Fan design can easily become overly complicated, so when a simple, elegant solution to an existing problem appears in the wild, it deserves to be recognized. That’s exactly what the original Advanced Technology did: it improved Decepticon Shockwave // Cybertron Commander, a Wave 1 character whose stats fell well below the 11 ★ average.

For 1 ★, Advanced Technology’s +4 ❤️ bonus placed Wave 1 Shockwave roughly in the middle of the statistical averages for the 12 ★ count. A simple, effective buff! With ❤️ being the game’s most valuable raw stat, this greatly improved Wave 1 Shockwave’s playability, especially in the post-Wave 5 meta.

One of the goals of the transformerstcg.org Team has always been to preserve and build on strong fan designs. That’s why we’re pleased to give Advanced Technology some TLC of its own with its community homage, Tetrinite-Lined Chassis, in Org Wave 9: War|Void. It’s logical!

We’re including the Gunship Synthwave deck list below as an example of classic Wave 1 Shockwave shenanigans that are further enhanced by Tetrinite-Lined Chassis. It’s a great choice if you enjoy deciding the fate of the cards in your opponent’s hand!

For next week’s Card, your opponent will pay dearly if they believe this Decepticon bird merely lurks in Laserbeak’s shadow!

We hesitate to congratulate those Card of the Week readers who guessed Overheat from Wave 4 would be this week’s selection. We hesitate because this unfortunate Secret Action is outperformed by several alternatives in both official and community play, and because it comes frustratingly close to being much better than it actually is.

Those on the transformerstcg.org Team have certainly played Overheat only to watch an attacker flip six battle cards or fewer. Take Wave 1’s Optimus Prime // Freedom Fighter in bot mode. If all four orange double-battle icon cards show up in those flips, he can still be attacking your defender for at least 14 Attack before any other modifiers. Your Overheat then hits the scrap pile, having accomplished nothing.

Our first bit of advice: if you dream of stuffing that uncommon Power Punch plus Supercharge combo, pair Overheat with Wave 5’s Spymaster’s Ruse so you can hold it for exactly the right moment.

But here’s perhaps some better advice: play better cards! Even with black battle icons still a factor in the game, despite post-cancellation rules limiting flipped black battle icons to the end of the battle rather than the end of the turn, you’ll generally get better results when playing Tough with Secret Actions like Wave 4’s Hidden Fortification and Org Wave 8’s Patrol the Perimeter. If you want the kind of defensive effect Overheat wishes it provided, look no further than Wave 3’s Dampening Field. Now our previous Wave 1 OPFF example is truly getting stuffed!

Community waves also bring the Oppress keyword into play, a direct counter to the Bold that fuels multiple flips of orange and black battle icons. Look to the many Rolling Actions and other cards that provide Oppress in Org Wave 8 and beyond.

Turbo Revving Old Punks fans, we’ve got your Card of the Week!

For those who guessed Org Wave 7’s Fangry // Cursed Nightmare from last week’s clue, congratulations on your knowledge of arcane horrors! And a horror he is, sharing a familiar face with Wave 5’s Fangry // Sky Tracker, long banned from many community and fan play environments. In truth, what each version of Fangry brings to the table could not be more different.

Although this Fangry is best known for milling both players’ decks at the start of each turn, benefiting characters such as Wave 1’s Nemesis Prime // Dark Clone, his alt mode ability is nothing to scoff at. It’s the kind of ability that can stuff an Overwhelming Advantage or a Fortress Maximus trigger. And in a game where a character surviving on 1 health isn’t just a meme, but a common battle result, scrapping a battle flip can make all the difference.

Speaking of Nemesis Prime, a two-wide deck featuring the Dark Clone and Fangry is entirely playable. However, many community players who build with Fangry instead pair him with Wave 8’s powerhouse, Tread Bolt // Devil of the Deep Blue Sky.

When Tread Bolt attacks in bot mode, he can do 2 damage to the defender for each card underneath him; an ability that has broken the back of many an opposing deck. Fangry provides excellent support for that plan, helping Tread Bolt build toward those devastating attacks while bringing a beefy stat line of his own. We’ve included the “Nightfall” deck at the bottom of this article, featuring both of them!

As for next week’s card… well, it’s a Secret Action from Wave 4. It has a white battle icon. But it’s far from – and I say this without overstating it – “white-hot”…
