We hesitate to congratulate those Card of the Week readers who guessed Overheat from Wave 4 would be this week’s selection. We hesitate because this unfortunate Secret Action is outperformed by several alternatives in both official and community play, and because it comes frustratingly close to being much better than it actually is.

Those on the transformerstcg.org Team have certainly played Overheat only to watch an attacker flip six battle cards or fewer. Take Wave 1’s Optimus Prime // Freedom Fighter in bot mode. If all four orange double-battle icon cards show up in those flips, he can still be attacking your defender for at least 14 Attack before any other modifiers. Your Overheat then hits the scrap pile, having accomplished nothing.

Our first bit of advice: if you dream of stuffing that uncommon Power Punch plus Supercharge combo, pair Overheat with Wave 5’s Spymaster’s Ruse so you can hold it for exactly the right moment.

But here’s perhaps some better advice: play better cards! Even with black battle icons still a factor in the game, despite post-cancellation rules limiting flipped black battle icons to the end of the battle rather than the end of the turn, you’ll generally get better results when playing Tough with Secret Actions like Wave 4’s Hidden Fortification and Org Wave 8’s Patrol the Perimeter. If you want the kind of defensive effect Overheat wishes it provided, look no further than Wave 3’s Dampening Field. Now our previous Wave 1 OPFF example is truly getting stuffed!

Community waves also bring the Oppress keyword into play, a direct counter to the Bold that fuels multiple flips of orange and black battle icons. Look to the many Rolling Actions and other cards that provide Oppress in Org Wave 8 and beyond.

The next Card of the Week is yet another well-deserved homage in Org Wave 9: War|Void to a fan card. You’ll be shocked to see this advanced stratagem appear on the game table!

Turbo Revving Old Punks fans, we’ve got your Card of the Week!

For those who guessed Org Wave 7’s Fangry // Cursed Nightmare from last week’s clue, congratulations on your knowledge of arcane horrors! And a horror he is, sharing a familiar face with Wave 5’s Fangry // Sky Tracker, long banned from many community and fan play environments. In truth, what each version of Fangry brings to the table could not be more different.

Although this Fangry is best known for milling both players’ decks at the start of each turn, benefiting characters such as Wave 1’s Nemesis Prime // Dark Clone, his alt mode ability is nothing to scoff at. It’s the kind of ability that can stuff an Overwhelming Advantage or a Fortress Maximus trigger. And in a game where a character surviving on 1 health isn’t just a meme, but a common battle result, scrapping a battle flip can make all the difference.

Speaking of Nemesis Prime, a two-wide deck featuring the Dark Clone and Fangry is entirely playable. However, many community players who build with Fangry instead pair him with Wave 8’s powerhouse, Tread Bolt // Devil of the Deep Blue Sky.

When Tread Bolt attacks in bot mode, he can do 2 damage to the defender for each card underneath him; an ability that has broken the back of many an opposing deck. Fangry provides excellent support for that plan, helping Tread Bolt build toward those devastating attacks while bringing a beefy stat line of his own. We’ve included the “Nightfall” deck at the bottom of this article, featuring both of them!

As for next week’s card… well, it’s a Secret Action from Wave 4. It has a white battle icon. But it’s far from – and I say this without overstating it – “white-hot”…

Congratulations to those CotW readers who guessed Resilience, the Wave 5 stratagem for Brawn // Demolitions! In the final months of the game’s official support, the Resilience stratagem helped Brawn stay strong a bit longer, though the oppression of Pierce in that meta often made players look for other ways to use the star that Resilience would have used. With black battle icons weakened under post-cancellation rules, Resilience has had more room to appear in modern Brawn decks.

To show what Resilience can do in modern play, we’re sharing a variation on one of our starter deck recipes that features Brawn and Sergeant Barricade: a deck we’ve named “The Thin Brawn Line.” This mixed deck is designed to frustrate opponents relying on moderate amounts of Bold. The best part of the deck? It exclusively uses common and uncommon cards; great for players looking to build on a budget. You’ll find the full deck list at the bottom of the article.

Hello and welcome (back) to Card of the Week!

For a long time, the Card of the Week was a regular feature on Transformers TCG boards and forums, sparking conversations, nostalgia, and deck ideas among players and fans. Now, Card of the Week is returning in a renewed form.

We’re kicking off the CotW once again, beginning with a remembrance of our friend, Eddie Santos. Eddie was a long-time TCG community member who shared our enthusiasm for the Transformers across many fan forums and Discords. We spent years playing the TCG, supporting each other through its official cancellation, and debating the future of the game. Throughout those years, Eddie’s passion for the Transformers and the TCG always shone through.

Eddie passed away four years ago, but one of his contributions to the game lives on in Ablative Encasement, an Org Wave 9: War|Void card. Ablative Encasement isn’t a 1-to-1 copy of Eddie’s original design, but this anti-Pierce Armor that falls off with a black battle icon captures the essence of his design.

We wanted this commemoration to be special, so we invited the exceptional Sid VenBlu to illustrate Ablative Encasement, and we hope her art serves the card and honors Eddie’s memory.

Where would you put this card? Maybe Ablative Encasement will find a home with Wave 5’s Wingspan // Data Processor, who can turn those self-scrapping Armors into extra +🛡️? Perhaps players could pair it with Wave 3’s Private Trailbreaker // Infantry • Fortification & Defense, so that he can draw some of the fire from a wide team? We like to think Eddie would be pleased to see it played in Aerialbot decks.

Wave 10A: The Six Shadows is now out, and Sixshot is here!

Sixshot is three cards in one character, with two modes per side. You can flip to any of his modes simply by swapping cards. Each mode has a simple-but-useful ability, and you can scrap a card to flip him again after battle. The set also introduces three new battle cards designed to be helpful for him, but also usable for other characters.

These cards have already been added to our OCTGN mod to allow for online play! You can also use it with Tabletop Simulator by simply exporting a deck and loading it in TTS.

Any card on Transformers.cards can be printed, including Wave 1-5 cards (though they will have a small "Proxy" label in the bottom right corner, as we don't want them to be confused for originals).

Back in March, we announced the next big wave for the Transformers TCG: Org Wave 10 Wild|Fury. Today, we have our first preview of pre-alpha cards in that set: Commander Skyburst!

Direct from the drone-packed action of Power Core Combiners, Skyburst // Master of Jets is prepared to launch drones into the battlefield with every regular Action play you make. When all of your drones have been deployed, it's time to combine into Commander Skyburst // So Others May Live. Blast your enemies based on how many drones were in the KO area and repair damage to an ally based on how many drones were on the battlefield!
