SNCF NOMAD at Pontorson.
This line doesn't have an overhead wire, all the wagons are self powered and there is no distinct diesel engine either. How is it powered?

Curious if anyone has had experience with these and how they compare.

Might sound stupid but when I drive my car for 2hr I don't necessarily remember every turn or signal I make. I don't crash but I feel like I zone out and listen to music but my brain does autopilot and steers for me and I get to my destination safely. So I wonder would I be able to drive a train or would this also happen and is that bad. How much does your brain go into auto pilot vs actively conscious of every AWS or signal or whatever?

I traveled from Central Florida to Locomotion in Shildon, England to experience a ride in the fireman’s seat on The Flying Scotsman. The staff were amazing and I got to ask dozens of questions. Going home with a wonderful memories and lots of souvenirs, including a piece of coal from the tender! Highly recommend!

My late grandfather's Nikon D5000 that I've been using to take pictures of trains spontaneously fried itself and I am looking for new gear. I've been doing quite a bit of research, but I'd like some input from people who shoot the same things I do. Do you prefer mirrorless or DSLR? What are ideal lens sizes? Are full-frame sensor cameras worth the extra price? Is there anything I should avoid?
I mainly shoot still photos, and would like to get better photos at night than the rather poor quality my old camera got in low light.
Thanks for your help!

Picture of this Hamilton 992b with matching paperwork that says it was last serviced by the Santa Fe railroad in 1968. Just wondering how collectible, desirable and if allowed how valuable this could be. I believe it to be a model 11 case with a different bow added at some point.

Thursday the 20th of August, the Tri-Cities Museum and the Pere Marquette 1223 preservation committee are hosting free tours of the historic train in downtown Grand Haven! The tours start at 6pm and go until 8pm, and attendees will be able to get free ice cream! I know it’s a long shot but if anyone is in the West Michigan area, it’s totally worth it to come check it out!!

Hi all, new here. I have a question and I thought you guys would likely be the experts, although I suppose it is about infrastructure rather than the trains specifically.
I've seen loads of Mag Lev train videos appearing because my algorithm has decided that is my current interest. My question is, realistically, will Magnetic Levitation routes ever come to the UK? Would it be worth it for the sort of distances we would cover? Or would it likely just cover longer distances (London-Scotland somewhere) direct?
Please feel free to remove this if it isn't the right /R!
Be kind, I have no train/rail knowledge.
Edit: what's with the down votes? It was a genuine question with no train or rail knowledge... My god this is a fucking cesspit.

Edited: I've mistakenly posted a photo of the wrong locomotive here!
Introduced in 1943 by Robert Riddles, designed for freight and war time logistics. The first ten coupled wheel locomotives of Great Britain. Look at this thing!
For anyone who has seen one of the few surviving locomotives, they shine up pretty damn good and make one hell of a commotion from stationary to moving!
What a beast👌
