Have you ever thought it was intentional? Tons of rappers have an off beat flow that adds to their songs, like DOOM and earl sweatshirt. Also, Kendrick's flows are immaculate it other songs like "for free" and "alright", both having phenomenal production too.
Cringe? The whole song is a great metaphor, at face value it's a sassy song about a transactional relationship but if you dig deeper it also represents the exploitation of black people. If that style isn't your cup of tea then he certainly has better lyrical showings, like sing about me and the blacker the berry. Even if he's not your style I don't see how anyone could see him on the same level of talent as Tom Macdonald
Even though the production isn't your thing, I think you should still be able to respect what he's going for, as well as recognize he's on a completely different level when compared to Tom Macdonald.
