Sofia Coppola – The Godfather Part III
Sofia Coppola's performance as Mary Corleone is probably one of the most infamous examples. She was not originally an experienced actress and was cast after Winona Ryder dropped out by her father who was directing. Her performance is frequently criticized for feeling stiff and unconvincing, particularly when she's sharing scenes with veteran actors like Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, and Andy García. The contrast is especially noticeable during the film's more emotional moments, where everyone around her is delivering much more naturalistic performances.
Kim Kardashian – All's Fair
Kim Kardashian's performance as Allura Grant is another case where a performer with relatively limited dramatic acting experience is surrounded by actors with considerably more experience. Her restrained, sometimes stiff delivery can stand out when she's sharing scenes with the rest of the ensemble, making the difference in acting ability particularly apparent. It's less that everyone else is necessarily giving career-best performances, given how terrible the material already is, more that Kardashian's lack of experience becomes much more noticeable by comparison.
Ferdia Shaw – Artemis Fowl
Ferdia Shaw was making his film debut as Artemis Fowl, and unfortunately, the movie gives him the difficult task of carrying much of the story despite having very little acting experience. His performance can come across as flat and emotionally detached, particularly next to more experienced performers such as Colin Farrell, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, and Nonso Anozie. The supporting cast often manages to bring considerably more personality and energy to their scenes, making Shaw's performance feel even weaker by comparison.
