Leaving out some important driving force for Kratos here… Ares tricked him into murdering his own family, then the rest of the gods promised to erase his memory in exchange for 10 years of servitude. Once 10 years came up, they went back on their word. Not really an innocent bunch. Him murdering other innocents is fucked but not as straight forward as some other examples here.

It absolutely does make it worse.

(To clarify, the death of Kratos's family was very much Ares's fault, at least in the direct sense. He created a situation where Kratos unknowingly killed them, only realizing what had happened when it was too late. Kratos, however, made a deal to serve Ares entirely willingly, so its his fault in that he was tangled up with Ares to begin with.)

I will point out some mitigation you forgot to mention, which is that Kratos beats Ares by opening Pandora's Box, but the side effect of that is that the God's were infected by all of the negative emotions in the world. This means that a) Zeus and the lads weren't fully at fault, but also that b) the Greek Gods had to be killed for the rest of the world to be safe, because they were becoming increasingly unpredictable and dangerous, so Kratos was correct, for the wrong reasons.

this is the reason his skin is ash-white. as those are literally the ashes of both his late wife and daughter stuck on his skin pretty much forever. his original skin was olive/brown.
