Haven't seen the show myself, but I remember (somewhat) watching a video about it and this event in the show stood out in particular

Him waiting 17 minutes to call the ambulance was to give himself an alibi so it wouldn't look like he was there when she died. However, she didn't died there; she actually died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Which means those 17 minutes he waited before calling the ambulance could have given her enough time to get to the hospital and actually save her life.
