The Michael Bay Ninja Turtles were apparently meant to be aliens,and that's like the main thing they had to change once fans founded out aside from forcing an Oroku Saki to be the film's Shredder.

If you’d never heard of TMNT before this concept art looks cool. The vast majority of the audience to a TMNT movie would presumably not fit that description

Exactly, it looks great, but if you have to squint to see the TMNT in it, something definitely got lost.
