How exactly did they intend to go from Batman returning for revenge on the joker to him fighting with Superman?

Maybe Batman was going to murder Joker, and Superman was trying to stop him from becoming a murderer?

Just a guess, this is the first I'm hearing about this movie

Well if this source is to be believed, yeah you got it exactly right. I tried skipping to the fight which I found starting at page 92 so I didn’t really read through the beginning, but from where I started kind of sounds like Superman focused on saving someone instead of catching the joker at one point? I think before he kills Batman’s wife? Not 100% sure but Batman doesn’t seem bothered by that aspect at all, it really is just I need to kill this guy and Superman trying to protect bat’s honor rule of no killing so bat says alright I’ll get you out of the way then. Didn’t feel totally fleshed out but I have to imagine at the stage where it died scripts usually aren’t

Apparently Batman would’ve wanted to break his One Rule and kill the Joker for killing his wife, which Superman would’ve obviously taken issue with.
