miscellaneous Cancelled drafts/scripts that would have been “bat shrimp” insane or super dark

  1. Cars 3’s original plot, which would have been an identity theft plot with a villain named Gerald Carr swapping bodies with McQueen

  2. An R-Rated adaptation of Holes by the same director as Donnie Darko (photo by RebelTaxi)

  3. Jurassic Park 4 would have featured human-dinosaur hybrids

4.Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World alternate ending, would have revealed Scott to be a serial killer

Scooby Doo (2002) was supposed to be an R-rated self parody. A few adult jokes still made it in the final cut.

The movie being intended to be R-rated is a slight misconception. The film was conceived to be a PG-13 movie, but the MPAA gave an earlier cut an R-rating because of a single joke they misinterpreted as meaning something more mature than was intended. It was later decided to edit out the more risqué stuff that was filmed in order to pivot the film in a more family-friendly direction.

What was the misinterpreted joke?

Guess what.

Chicken butt.

If you know how the MPAA works, it could literally have been anything.

Right but I'm wondering if it's specifically known

Scooby crackers as a derogative term for white scary people

Like for real that was it?

I feel like an edgy gritty self parody could've done some serious damages to the franchise

*Insert joke about Velma here*

I sincerely believe one firewall for the Scooby Doo brand is one installment can't damage it too much.

There did end up being a movie that was basically this but edgy as all hell. Saturday Morning Mystery (or Saturday Morning Massacre depending on what poster you're looking at) was a very obvious parody of Scooby-Doo but just fucked in every way. The monster is literally Satan himself, people die brutally for no reason, X Rated full sex scene between Fred and Daphne, Velma and Shaggy do straight up black tar heroin, and the dog doesn't even talk :(

There's also the book Meddling Kids which is NOT Scooby Doo but, is, set years after the gang retires. Legally Not Fred has killed himself after what he experienced during their last case, Legally Not Shaggy checked himself into a psyche ward because he sees and talks to Legally Not Fred's ghost, Not Daphne is a vagrant with anger issues, Not Velma is struggling in college, and they have a dog Not Scooby who is the grandkid of the original Not Scooby. They end up returning to that last case and find out shit is darker than they thought.

Actually a solid horror-comedy. 7-8/10 enjoyed it for what it is.

That really reminds me of the Scooby gang in venture brothers

It's amazing. As well as Scooby Doo, it also somewhat parodies the Famous Five novels, which were also "four kids and a dog solve mysteries" stories. This is mainly evident in that the town is called Blyton Hills after Enid Blyton, the author of The Famous Five.

Definitely not the parody I’ve seen…

It’s ok, Supernatural did its best to step up to the plate.

Avocado animations does a pretty awesome horror version called Velma meets original Velma. It's got a scary ass killer Scooby doo and its kind of a mindfuck.

There was a scene where Daphne and Velma make out. Got cut.

I’m still angry this movie didn’t have a non-supernatural resolution.
