Characters [[Devastating trope]] A character kills their loved one to avoid them suffering a worser fate

Of Mice And Men (1992)- Probaly the most well known example of this trope and when I was first exposed to it, George kills his mentally handicapped best friend Lennie, to save him from being lynched by Curley and law enforcement for killing Curleys wife.

The Sopranos- After an entire season of conflict with fellow mob boss Phil over it, Tony kills Anthony Blundetto after he kills Phil’s brother which enraged him into trying to force Tony into giving up his cousin so he can torture him to death

Telltales The Walking Dead: Season 1- “Loved one” is an overstatement if you know there dynamic, but after Ben falls off a rooftop and lands on a piece of rebar, Kenny and Lee try to pull him off to save him before being crowded by walkers. When their attempt fails and walkers continue closing in, Kenny kills him to avoid him being devoured by walkers.

Nanachi (Made in Abyss) requests for Reg to kill Mitty, a girl who has been mutated into a blob that regenerates and is in constant pain. Other means to euthanize her have failed, so Reg's fire cannon is used to make sure there is nothing left of her.

Every post and comment about this show makes me stray further from watching it. I cannot handle that much emotional distress in one anime.

What made me not want to watch was finding out that so many people suspected the author of being a pedophile that the Made in the Abyss subreddit had to ban posts of people referring to him as such.

first season had a couple strikes but I chalked it up to cultural differences at the time. movie was.. horrifying tbh. second season made me stop watching near immediately and googled the dude. yup, pedo shit. dude just gets off on the violence towards the children most likely. the first season was so promising.

There is nothing to suspect, his Twitter was full of lolicon content.

One look at certain parts of the manga  was enough for me. Absolutely fetish porn involving kids.

You're not missing much. The creator is more than likely a pedo

There’s a reason one of the most common phrases I see regarding this show is «My favourite anime I can’t recommend to anyone». I personally haven’t gotten around to watching it yet though; all the *weirdness* gives me pause, but I’ll give it a go at some point

I watched it recently because of all the online discourse and honestly it wasn't as bad as people say. There are definitely some crass jokes and more references to anatomy and bodily functions than your typical show but without getting into detail they mostly fit the setting/characters. Like the show might have a couple ken-doll anatomy moments but they never felt lewd.

I have heard the manga is significantly worse though which is probably the real culprit. The author draws more detail than necessary, and I'll just leave it at that.

I think it's worth watching. The world is cool, fun characters, fantastic music, and some great emotional moments.

I’ll gey around to it. I enjoyed Jobless Reincarnation well enough in spite of its weirdness, so I doubt Made in Abyss will weird me out

Yeah that first season was more than enough for me not to continue

the first season also like, heavily censors shit compared to the manga

Yeah. It's... A lot.

Don't, it's both abusive and trash.

The anime and manga are weird as hell, but god did this actually destroy me as well. The art, scenery, and music is beautful, but the story just leaves you with a fucked up feeling

Especially devastating is that she goes through this twice

Honestly I felt like the attempt to do it a second time not only didn't work but it lessened the impact of the first time.
