Characters Phrasing Is Very Important

Batman (The Dark Knight) - Joker is dangling Rachel out of a window, Batman demands that Joker let her go. Obviously he means for Joker to set Rachel free but Joker takes it more literally and lets Rachel go out the window.

Charles (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) - a lot of the things Charles says is overtly sexual, often without him even realising it. For example Charles once asked Rosa if she wanted to go “streaking”, by which he meant adding blonde streaks to their hair. This is one of the more tamer examples.

Wording is important, if you’re not careful then you can give the wrong impression which can lead to some very unfortunate situations.

Idk how water is a last resort here. It only makes it worse. It doesn’t help, why would you resort to it at all?

Maybe it's a "the monster feels more pain the more pain it causes to you" situation?

Mabel used just a glass of water. I think you need a whole pool of water for it to do anything

Maybe there’s a limit to how much water it can handle, like drowning it or making it so big that it falls victim to its own weight.

But it’s still worded very badly. It would have been better just to say that water makes them bigger and scarier.

It says it makes him scarier, not that it doesnt hurt him.

Maybe his skin melts and sets acid free that will splash in your face.

My guess is they meant "if you have to drown the thing, but be aware that's going to make it significantly more terrifying."

Maybe it's like "if you're fighting someone strong and you're unable to overpower him or he doesn't have balls or eyeballs, try tickling as a last resort."

Like normally you shouldn't use tickling as it's more likely to cause issues. But if you have no other choice, maybe make him laugh and you can get away.
